Mitsubishi's battery-powered i is set to hit the U.S. market in November. However, the Japanese automaker is already experiencing a flood of potential buyers seeking info on the "around $30,000" electric hatch. Mitsubishi spokesman Maurice Durand told Green Car Advisor that customer requests for the i have "easily doubled" as gas prices inch closer to the $4-per-gallon mark.
Due to this rising interest, Mitsubishi has decided to launch an online reservation system for its four-seat electric car prior to the vehicle's arrival. Durand told GCA the website will be opened "within the next 90 days."
The electric i, which boasts a range of approximately 85 miles, will be Mitsubishi's first – but probably not its last – battery-powered vehicle offered in the U.S. Look for the i's reservation site to go live sometime this spring.
