In late July, Carlos Ghosn, Nissan chief executive officer, reportedly stated that "with more than 10,100 electric Nissan Leaf vehicles already sold worldwide" the Japanese automaker is "clearly the global leader in zero emission mobility." However, since we were not on hand in Bejing, we could not verify that number.
Now, though, we have a confirmed number: 10,000. As in: global Nissan Leaf sales have officially cracked the 10,000-unit milestone. Nissan spokeswoman Katherine Zachary told AutoblogGreen that sales of the Leaf, "crossed the 10,000 mark a couple weeks ago." Ascertaining an exact number is not possible at this time due to the Nissan's "summer holiday" shutdown in Japan, but Zachary says with 100 percent certainty, Leaf sales surpassed this important milestone.
When will we be able to officially report that 100,000 Leafs are charging down streets across the globe? Will it be in 2012? How 'bout 2013? We'd love to hear your guess in the comments below.
