Citroen's Multicity service

Menage a deux?

Multicity, the vehicle-rental service launched last year by French automaker Citroen, has branched out into the peer-to-peer car-sharing industry, becoming the first of such services in Europe, Automotive News reports.

Citroen, the sister company of Peugeot, is specifically opening up its Multicity service to car owners as a de-facto way for prospective younger consumers to test-drive its models. Citroen joins General Motors (through RelayRides), Daimler's Smart division and BMW as automakers that have launched peer-to-peer car-sharing services.

Citroen debuted Multicity in early 2011. Last June, Citroen started making the battery-electric C-Zero (the sister vehicle to the Mitsubishi i) available to rent through Multicity.
