EnerDel and the Think EV

Lithium-ion battery maker EnerDel is trying to broaden its sales into the secondary-battery-storage market as a way to help give the struggling company a second life of its own.

The company says it's working with ATC New Technologies to co-market and sell lithium-ion battery systems for heavy-duty vehicles as well as for secondary-use purposes such as energy-storage backup systems.

Last September, EnerDel's CEO said it would diversify by lessening its dependence on sales to electric light-duty vehicle makers. EnerDel parent Ener1 declared bankruptcy early last year in part because of its investment in Norwegian electric-vehicle maker Think. Last summer, EnerDel won a second contract to produce lithium-ion batteries for the Volvo C30 EV. Check out EnerDel's press release below.
