Toronto's Shuttle Challenge

It sounds a bit counter-intuitive, but one Toronto nonprofit is giving folks a chance to win almost a full tank of gas if they drive less. Summerhill Group's Shuttle Challenge, launched last week, encourages commuters to cut down on their driving habits, giving away $25 gas cards for folks who participate and another $25 card for people who can reduce their driving by 10 percent.

Participants are given data-logging devices to track driving habits during a two-week period, then the have the chance to lower those numbers by 10 percent. In addition to the second gas cards, "winners" are eligible for a $1,000 prize. Funding for the program comes from the Toronto Atmospheric Fund, Ontario Centre for Excellence, the Auto Recyclers of Canada and Shell's FuelingChange grant.
