<em><strong><small><br />
</small></strong></em>British and French motorists will be able to try the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/citroen+c-zero/">Citro&euml;n C-Zero</a> before it goes on sale. Citro&euml;n has launched a <a href="http://www.electric.citroen.com/">website</a> for interested drivers to ask for a test drive of the <strike>badge-engineered</strike> Mitsubishi-based car and to get all kinds of information about the model. As <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/10/mitsubishi-imiev-earns-its-chevrons-bring-on-the-citroen-c-zero/">announced yesterday</a>, the C-Zero is based on the Mitsubishi iMiEV and uses a standard European 220V plug to fill the batteries in about 6 hours. The website also offers up a nice video which you can watch right after the jump. It's in French, but the message is pretty obvious.<br />

Last summer, French automaker PSA and Mitsubishi announced that the two companies would partner on electric vehicle development for the European market. Prior to the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Motor-Show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>, Peugeot announced that it would market a version of the Mitsubishi iMiEV <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/07/peugeot-announces-that-its-imiev-will-be-called-the-ion/">as the iOn</a> and now sister brand Citro&euml;n has announced <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/citroen-gets-mitsubishi-i-miev-variant-euro-sales-begin-2010/">its own version</a> of the car. Following its usual naming convention and the emissions free nature of the car, the Citro&euml;n is badged as the C-Zero. <br />
<br />
The C-Zero will become the second battery-powered vehicle in the Citro&euml;n lineup in the fourth quarter of 2010 along with the Berlingo van. The C-Zero will be eligible for a &euro;5,000 tax break in France. Like the iMiEV, the C-Zero takes 6 hours to charge its battery from a 220V European outlet. A special 400V / 125A charger can provide 80 percent replenishment in 30 minutes. Citro&euml;n is quoting a range of 80 miles on a full charge. <br />

This sedan, which competes against offerings such as the VW Passat, gets updated with a couple of Euro V-compliant powertrains that reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. First, the C5 gets the 1.6-liter THP turbo gasoline engine, which was co-developed with BMW and can be found in other PSA offerings as well as the Mini. This 163 hp unit replaces the 2-liter 143 hp unit and burns 7.1 l/100 km (33 mpg U.S.). The new diesel features a particulate filter and is a 2-liter 163 hp unit that manages to burn just 5.6 l/100 km (42 mpg U.S.) when mated to a manual gearbox and 6.9 l/100 km (34 mpg U.S.) when mated to an automatic. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.motorpasion.com/citroen/el-citroen-c5-cambia-motores-y-actualiza-precios">Motor Pasi&oacute;n</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/11/05/citroen-updates-c5-with-a-small-turbo-and-an-all-new-diesel/">Citroën updates C5 with a small turbo and an all-new diesel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 16:04:00 EST. <br />
Citroen has just introduced a revised version of the C3 Picasso compact MPV in the UK with a re-calibrated engine to reduce the CO2 emissions. The VTR+ and exclusive models equipped with the 90 hp diesel engine are now rated at 119 g/km CO2 compared to the 125 g/km of the previous edition. Getting below that 120 g/km threshold is important in the UK because road taxes are in part based on fuel/consumption CO2 emissions. Getting into the lower tax band means a reduction from &pound;120 to just &pound;35. Mileage goes from 50 mpg (U.S.) on the EU combined cycle to 52.3 mpg (U.S.). The new, high-mileage models also get standard Bluetooth connections for cell phones and USB connections for MP3 players. <br />

Earlier this year, Peugeot announced that it would introduce its first production vehicle based on the new 3008 crossover in 2011. Peugeot will likely be the first automaker to introduce a light duty diesel hybrid using PSA's Hybrid4 through-the-road architecture. For this first application, Peugeot will stick with nickel metal hydride batteries and, if a report out of Japan is accurate, PSA will be sourcing its batteries from Sanyo, the same company that supplies batteries to Ford and Honda for their hybrid models. In addition to the 3008, PSA will also incorporate the Hybrid4 system into the upcoming Citroen DS5. The DS5 will likely make its debut next spring at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> and the hybrid will use the same diesel through-the-road setup. <br />

<br />
This new model is rumored to be planned for sale in 2012 and will be the first model under Citroen's<a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/22/report-citroen-preparing-low-cost-brand/"> new Essentiele eco-friendly moniker</a>. It's thought that the production C-Cactus will carry on with the concept's bare necessities approach, eschewing unnecessary bits - simplifying construction and lowering costs in the process.<br />
<br />
Rumors contend that the upcoming Citroen will feature a three-cylinder diesel powerplant mated up with some unknown low-cost hybrid system. We'll see soon enough.<br />

<br />
Citro&euml;n is apparently going in both directions with its new range of upscale models, the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/08/24/officially-official-citroen-releases-details-and-pics-of-the-n/">DS series</a>, and a new rumored line called "essentiele" (essential). The essential line could take the concepts in the<a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/citroen-seriously-considering-c-production-c-cactus/"> C-Cactus model</a> and turn it into a complete low-cost range of cars. The idea is a return to how the automaker marketed vehicles in the 1950s, when the humble <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2CV">2CV</a> and the DS were on the market at the same time. Let's not forget, too, that rival Renault's most successful product in the recent years is the entire <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/dacia">Dacia</a> lineup. The C-Cactus, designed to be lighter and have fewer pieces, could be lower-end in the low-carbon sense as well. The French newspaper <a href="http://www.latribune.fr/entreprises/industrie/automobile/20090920trib000424052/citroen-prepare-une-gamme-economique.html">La Tribune</a> also mentions the possibility of hybrid versions of the cheaper Citro&euml;n line, surely <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/peugeot+hybrid/">borrowed from sibling marque Peugeot</a>. The range is expected to be launched worldwide in 2012-13.<br />

</small><strong><em><small>Citroen REVOLTe - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></em></strong></div>
<br />
Between storming the Bastille and a national rejection of the Venus razor, the French certainly know the meaning of the word "revolt". Interesting, then, that Citroen knowingly used the word - albeit Francofied with a superfluous E for its hybrid electric drivetrain - for its latest concept car. <br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/14/frankfurt-preview-citroen-revolte-leaks-out-ahead-of-debut/">REVOLTe concept</a> is a throwback to the 2CV of yore, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. But while the Tata Nano might carry the flame of the bare-bones four-wheeled transport today, the REVOLTe simply borrows the basic shape of its forbearer and gives it a modern twist. That bit comes courtesy of an unspecified "small-capacity conventional combustion engine combined with an electric motor and a battery re-charging function." Measuring just twelve feet long, the REVOLTe seats three - one offset up front and two in the back - accessed by suicide doors. We could go on, but Citroen has waxed poetic enough in its press release after the jump, so we'll let them pontificate and have you skip straight to the photos below.<br />

The Peugeot lion won't be the only badge <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/02/officially-official-peugeot-to-offer-re-badged-mitsubishi-i-mie/">burnishing the snouts of re-branded Mitsubishi i MiEVs</a> buzzing around the streets of European cities a little more than a year from now. It's been decided that the twin chrome chevrons of Citro&euml;n are as worthy as its sister emblem to adorn a Francified variant of the Japanese automaker's global version of the i MiEV. In Paris, over what we imagine was green tea and croissants, Osamu Masuko of MiMoCo and his CEO equivalent at PSA Peugeot Citro&euml;n, Philippe Varin, signed further agreements and worked out some of the details of their sharing arrangement.<br />
<br />
Production is said to begin in October of 2010 with examples appearing in showrooms sometime before Christmas. The move gives Citro&euml;n a low emissions model ahead of its planned <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/05/11/rendered-speculation-citroen-ds5-diesel-hybrid-possibly-coming/">2011 DS5 HYbrid4</a> and will give consumers yet another <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/Nissan+Leaf">electric</a> <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/pininfarina+b0/">choice</a> in the Euro marketspace. Brief press release after the break.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>Citro&euml;n DS3 - click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em></div>
<br />
We got our first sort of look at Citro&euml;n's new DS3 mini in a poorly lit alcove at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Geneva-Motor-Show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March and, based on what we could see then, it looked really cool. Well the DS3 is back and, this time, it's in production form and will be appearing at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Motor-Show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> in a few weeks. The DS3 is the first of a line of more <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">premium models from Citro&euml;n that will revive the DS badge</a>. This example is small with an overall length of just 155.5 inches, but that is still 10 inches longer than a MINI. <br />
<br />
Power for the DS3 will come from a range of diesel and gas engines. The diesels put out 90 and 110 hp and have CO2 ratings of 99 and 115 g/km, respectively. The three gas four-cylinder engines range from 95 to 150 hp and have CO2 ratings of 136 to 160 g/km. The full press release is after the jump.<br />

<br />
BMW and PSA share a couple powertrains: The diesel Minis have the 1.6 HDi developed by PSA, while the 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline engines were co-developed with BMW. However, BMW chief exec Norbert Reithofer has confirmed in the <em>Financial Times</em> that the two European automakers could begin sharing not just powertrains, but platforms as well - specifically with Mini. From here, we can speculate that the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">DS3</a> could form the underpinnings of a forthcoming Mini SUV? Perhaps a new Peugeot 207 John Cooper Works? Whatever happens, it won't be <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/report-smart-partnering-with-renault-on-next-gen-forfour/">a new German-French auto alliance</a>.<br />

<div align="center"><em><strong><small>Citroen C6 sedan - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />For rather obvious reasons, most eco-friendly cars fall into the compact or subcompact category. The lighter the platform, the easier it is for automakers to eke out additional miles from each gallon of gas and therefore lower carbon emissions. According to a report from <em>Autocar</em> in the UK, though, Citroen is taking a different approach for a new high-efficiency version of its C6 executive saloon.<br /><br />We're familiar with Peugeot-Citroen's new <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/paris-2008-peugeot-citroen-hymotion4-hybrid-drive-system/">HYbrid4 powertrain system</a>, which is currently slated for the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/peugeot-launches-pilot-engineering-for-diesel-hybrid-production/">Peugeot 3008 crossover</a> for 2011, and it's this same drivetrain that's being touted for the C6 sedan. The French automaker's hybrid technology would reportedly bolt into the midsize car and replace the entire rear suspension assembly. Up front, a turbocharged diesel engine with 163 horsepower would be fitted with stop/start and mated up to a six-speed automated manual gearbox.<br /><br />In addition to the high-tech drivetrain, the eco C6 would also get a series of aero tweaks that could include a full underbody tray and semi-enclosed rear wheels along with low-rolling-resistance tires. If there's any truth to these rumors, the new Citroen could be badged the CX in recognition of the automaker's flagship model first introduced in 1974.<br /><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/">Citroen C6</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/citroen-c6-large_07_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/citroen-c6-large_14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/citroen-c6-large_15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/citroen-c6-large_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c6/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/07/citroen-c6-large_08_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.ASpx?AR=241555">Autocar</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/07/16/report-citroen-planning-super-miserly-c6/">REPORT: Citroen planning super-miserly C6</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Thu, 16 Jul 2009 16:22:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">2010 Citroen C3 - click above for high res image gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />In Europe, the so-called C-Segment is the single largest volume vehicle class, so when a manufacturer brings out a new model in that class, it's an important move. C cars are compacts like the Ford Focus, VW Golf and Opel Astra. Citroen's C car is called the C3 and it's all new for 2010. Visually, the most remarkable element of the C3 is the "Zenith windshield" which stretches back almost to the B-pillar. Seeing something like this is common on concept cars (see: <a href="http://www.autoblog.com/photos/kia-no-3-concept/1395823/">Kia No 3</a>) but rare on production cars, especially mainstream models. <br /><br />The 12.9 foot long C3 has managed to not add any weight in spite of the enormous piece of glass up front. Citroen has improved the efficiency and it will get even better next year with further powertrain upgrades. For 2010, the HDi 90 DPFS version will get a CO2 emissions rating of just 99 g/km. Next year, a second-generation start/stop system will yield variants that get 90 and 95 g/km. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/">2010 Citroen C3</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09pres12-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09d44-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09d2-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09pres6-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-citroen-c3/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09pres7-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Citroen]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/citroen-announces-new-c3-including-a-version-that-gets-99-g-km-c/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Citroen announces new C3 including a version that gets 99 g/km CO2</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/29/citroen-announces-new-c3-including-a-version-that-gets-99-g-km-c/">Citroen announces new C3 including a version that gets 99 g/km CO2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Mon, 29 Jun 2009 18:53:00 EST. <div align="center"><span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"><small>Citroen C-Cactus Concept - Click above for high-res image gallery</small></span><br /></div>
<br />Ever since the Citroen C-Cactus concept made its debut at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/frankfurt-motor-show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> in the fall of 2007, we've been hearing that the eco-friendly vehicle may make it into production. The latest such rumor comes by way of <em>Channel 4</em> in the UK, which is reporting that the quirky French automaker is "seriously considering" a production version of the C-Cactus.<br /><br />Though the concept C-Cactus featured a diesel hybrid powertrain, a conventional gas- or diesel-powered drivetrain is likely if the car ever does hit the market. In addition to the fuel-efficient powertrain, the C-Cactus pioneered a number of innovations to reduce the amount of raw materials required to assemble an automobile as well as the use of recycled materials. According to <em>Channel 4</em>, a three-cylinder engine featuring stop/start technology would emit less than 100 grams of CO2 per mile.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/">Citroen C-Cactus Concept</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/03/c_c-cactus_large_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/09/carscoop_c-cactusconcept-_0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/09/carscoop_c-cactusconcept-_11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/09/carscoop_c-cactusconcept-_12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/c-catcus-concept-citro-n/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/09/carscoop_c-cactusconcept-_13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Channel 4]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/22/citroen-seriously-considering-c-production-c-cactus/">REPORT: Citroen seriously considering C-production C-Cactus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Mon, 22 Jun 2009 19:56:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><small style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;">Citroen C5 3.0HDi 240 - click above for high-res image gallery</small><br /></div>
<br />Citroen is replacing its existing 2.7-liter diesel V6 with a new 3.0-liter model that, thanks to the latest technology, allows it to make more power from less fuel. That also means it emits less CO2 along the way. Output in the new engine goes from 208 hp to 240 hp. The 3.0-liter with a 6-speed automatic transmission is available in both the C5 and C6 models and earns a combined rating of 31.6 mpg (U.S.) on the EU drive cycle, an impressive feat for these large cars. That's an improvement of 13-17% based on the model. The new engine uses the third generation of Citroen's common rail fuel system along with a diesel particulate filter. The CO2 emissions with the 3.0-liter are reduced 12-15% to 195 g/km. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/">Citroen C5&amp;C6 240 HDi</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09078002-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09079002-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09079001-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09078001-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/citroen-c5andc6-240-hdi/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/06/09078003-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Citroen]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/17/citroen-unveils-new-new-3-0l-v6-diesel-more-power-less-fuel/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Citroen unveils new new 3.0L V6 diesel, more power, less fuel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/17/citroen-unveils-new-new-3-0l-v6-diesel-more-power-less-fuel/">Citroen unveils new new 3.0L V6 diesel, more power, less fuel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Wed, 17 Jun 2009 09:21:00 EST. ECC actually has a deal with Citroen UK to buy cars direct from the factory for conversion and does all the work at its London shop<br /><br />Following in the path of other converters, ECC is apparently learning that building and debugging such a vehicle is far more complicated than it might first appear. British EV enthusiast and blogger Nikki decided to make the trip from her Bristol home to London to try out the Ev'ie. <br /><br />Nikki <a href="http://www.aminorjourney.com/2009/05/29/evie-another-broken-dream/">chronicled</a> her unfortunately unhappy experience attemping to drive the electric mini-car. While the C1-based Ev'ie is a larger, roomier and much better trimmed out machine than quadricycles like G-Wiz, the electric powertrain did not live up to its billing. Excruciatingly slow acceleration was followed by premature halt to the festivities when the car would simply not go any further after a mere 7 miles. It's still not known exactly what the issue was since the car gave no indication of what the problem might be. The ECC representative suspects overheating, but claimed that this had never occurred before. Hopefully they will get it sorted out before actually delivering cars to customers. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/">Electric Car Corporation Ev'ie</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/ecc-evie-8_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/ecc-evie-7_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/ecc-evie-6_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/ecc-evie-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/electric-car-corporation-evie/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/05/ecc-evie-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.aminorjourney.com/2009/05/29/evie-another-broken-dream/">A Minor Journey</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/05/29/electric-car-company-citroen-evie-tested-slow-and-dubious-reli/">Electric Car Company Citroen Ev'ie tested, slow and dubious reliability</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 29 May 2009 12:48:00 EST. The first car we saw with the new nomenclature was the DS3 concept that was shown at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/geneva-motor-show/">Geneva Motor Show</a> in March. That MINI-challenger will be joined by a larger DS5, which is likely to get a diesel hybrid version in 2011. The diesel hybrid will be the same <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/paris-2008-peugeot-citroen-hymotion4-hybrid-drive-system/">HYbrid4 powertrain system</a> that is <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/04/29/peugeot-launches-pilot-engineering-for-diesel-hybrid-production/">coming to the Peugeot 3008 crossover</a> next year. <br /><br />The HYbrid4 system was first shown in several concepts at last year's <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. Unlike other hybrids on the market already, this is a <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/paris-2008-peugeot-citroen-hymotion4-hybrid-drive-system/">through-the-road</a> hybrid with no mechanical connection between the internal combustion and electric drive systems. Underhood lies a diesel engine that drives the front wheels while an electric motor and lithium ion battery are mounted at the rear to provide on-demand all-wheel-drive as well as electric-only operation at lower speeds. <br /><br /><br />
<br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/235581/citroen_ds5_revealed.html">Auto Express</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/05/11/rendered-speculation-citroen-ds5-diesel-hybrid-possibly-coming/">Rendered speculation: Citroen DS5 diesel hybrid possibly coming in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Mon, 11 May 2009 10:39:00 EST. <br />Imagine combining the highway mileage and torque that diesel engines get with the benefits of a hybrid in city traffic. This is a dream combination, and PSA is one automaker that is closes to blending these two technologies (see the HyBrid4 at Peugeot, for instance). Recently, The <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/in_the_showroom/article6205646.ece">Times</a> had the chance to test the prototype <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/citroen-hypnos/">Citro&euml;n Hypnos</a>. Their take, it's an interesting blend in a true prototype vehicle.<br /><br />First, the technical sheet: the Hypnos uses a 2-liter diesel to generate 200hp and gets an additional 50hp from an electric motor powering the rear wheels. The concept gets 62.7 mpg (Imperial, 52 mpg U.S. or 4.5l/100km) and produces CO2 emissions under 120g/km. Those are compact car numbers but the Hypnos is no small ride. The drivers enjoyed the Prius- or RX400h-like noise and pollution free segments of city driving as well as the torquey response from the diesel engine once the ICE was ignited. On the other hand, since diesels are noisier than petrol engines, the contrast between the electric and the ICE modes was more pronounced.<br /><br />This powertrain will likelyfind its way to the market: it will be first installed in the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/peugeot-3008-crossover-to-get-hybrid4-technology-in-2011/">Peugeot 3008</a> crossover and the recently launched upscale <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">Citro&euml;n DS series</a> in 2011. Smaller versions of this powertrain are also in the works and will surely make it in the brand's workhorses, the Citro&euml;n C3 and C4 and the Peugeot 308 and 407.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/">Paris 2008: Citroen Hypnos</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08126033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08133001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08130012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/in_the_showroom/article6205646.ece">Times online</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/citroen-hypnos-test-drive-diesel-hybrid-concept-cars-got-a-lot/">Citroën Hypnos test drive: diesel hybrid concept car's got a lot to love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 09:46:00 EST. <em></em><br />A new, four-seat all-electric car is about to go on sale in the UK. Based on the Citro&euml;n C1, the Citro&euml;n C1 ev'ie is converted to electric power by the Electric Car Corporation Plc. ECC is accepting orders for the &pound;16,850 vehicle starting tomorrow. What do you get for your hard earned pounds? A driving range of between 60 and 70 miles and a top speed of 60 mph. A full charge takes about 6-7 hours from a standard domestic 13 amp socket and costs 90p. Those numbers should appeal to at least 500 people in the next year - that's the amount that ECC expects to build in the coming 12 months, with a <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">production</span> conversion schedule of between 2,000 and 4,000 vehicles in 2010. <br /><br />The ECC is made up of British auto industry veterans, including people who have worked at Ricardo, Jaguar and Ford. In reality, the government is only chipping in half that amount, and the automakers themselves are expected to throw in the other thousand pounds.<br /><br />There were a number of dissenting opinions coming from the car companies that weren't sure about the merits of matching the government's &pound;1,000 figure, but <em>Autocar</em> is <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.ASpx?AR=239699">reporting</a> that Ford, BMW, Citroen, Hyundai, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Volvo have all announced their plans to take part in the program. We'd be surprised if the majority of the remaining car manufacturers didn't join in too.<br /><br />Despite the fact that these automakers are officially offering their half of the scrapping incentive, individual dealerships will still be able to set their own final price for any specific car.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle.ASpx?AR=239699">Autocar</a> | Image: Matt Cardy/Getty]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/04/24/automakers-line-up-for-uk-scrapping-scheme/">Automakers line up for UK scrapping scheme</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:58:00 EST.
