The Fisker Karma might look good from the outside, but the view from the driver's seat is anything but infotaining.

That's the detailed, expert opinion of Brian Greenstone, an Austin, TX-based programmer who owns both a Karma and an Aston Vantage, according to The Truth About Cars. Greenstone also has enough time and passion for his cars that he recorded a 41-minute video about just why the Karma's infotainment and climate control panel, the Command Center, is so tremendously bad (he also made a 27-minute video reviewing the car as a whole. Both are available below). Greenstone gives the system an F. That's up from an F- before a recent software update. These are grades only an owner can give, someone who's spent time getting to know the car. He says:

Automatic climate control? It "basically doesn't work."

Bluetooth? The screen "gives you no information."

Changing audio inputs using the steering wheel controls? "I have no idea what audio mode I'm in."

System settings? "I've got to take a breath before I start talking about this. This is awful. This makes you wonder what two-year-old designed it."

In short, Greenstone doesn't like the Command Center. Fisker, since these are mostly software issues, the ball is in your court to improve things. Do a good job and Greenstone might just bump you up to a D-.
Continue reading A 41-minute video about why the Fisker Karma infotainment system gets an F

A 41-minute video about why the Fisker Karma infotainment system gets an F originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 23 May 2012 17:58:00 EST.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a formal field inquiry into the garage fire that may or may not have been started by a Fisker Karma sedan, Bloomberg reports. The conflagration, which destroyed the Karma, the garage and a few nearby vehicles, took place on May 3rd in Sugarland, Texas.

Claude Harris, NHTSA's director of vehicle safety compliance, said that the investigation is "ongoing," adding that "no determination has been made at this time." Until an official cause is isolated, we're betting there will be a good bit of he-said, she-said finger pointing in all directions...

It's worth noting that NHTSA has also been actively investigating the safety of battery packs used in the Chevrolet Volt after reports of fires in the wild and after NHTSA's own crash testing procedures.
NHTSA launches inquiry into Fisker Karma garage fire originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 18 May 2012 14:05:00 EST.
The Fisker Atlantic extended-range plug-in vehicle will start production about a year after its previously estimated mid-2013 date, Inside EVs blog reports, citing leaked company documents that were dated "a few weeks ago."

The Atlantic, formerly known as Project Nina, will compete pricewise against the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series sedans, as well as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and E-Class, Jaguar XF and Audi A4 and A6. That would put the model in the $50,000 to $60,000 range, according to the publication. The model, which will still be produced at Fisker's Delaware plant, will have 300 horsepower, a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds and emissions of 50 grams per kilometer of CO2, Inside EVs reports, citing the documents.

"As these documents are obviously leaked investor documents and highly confidential, I am not prepared to comment any further," a Fisker representative tells AutoblogGreen.

The status of the Atlantic has been in question since plans for the former General Motors plant in Delaware were put on hold once the U.S. Department of Energy froze most of the $529 million in loans earmarked for the California-based company.

Fisker unveiled the Atlantic at the New York Auto Show last month, saying that the car's price tag would be "a much lower price point" than Fisker's Karma sedan.
Leaked Fisker Atlantic documents reveal big production delay, specs originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 16 May 2012 09:57:00 EST.

"Our technologies and engine design have been fully tested and certified at the highest level. It is irresponsible and ill-informed for technology pundits to suggest otherwise in order to secure media attention for unfounded claims."

So says Paul Boskovitch, director of powertrain at Fisker, in response to reports that the Karma's tight engine bay packaging may be the reason one car was blamed for a garage fire in Texas. Those statements have been attributed to Jon Bereisa, CEO of Auto Lectrification. Lending credence to the theory is the fact that Bereisa formerly served as chief engineer for the General Motors EV1 and systems architect for the Chevrolet Volt.

While Bereisa isn't exactly what we'd call an 'ill-informed technology pundit', Fisker has provided an in-depth defense of its Karma sedan in a statement provided to Automotive News. You can read more about it here, but the gist is that the car has been thoroughly tested and engineered not to bust into flames - as you might expect of any new car - and that it has been "fully tested and certified at the highest level."

In any case, we're willing to wage a significant sum that we'll be hearing more from all sides of the argument in due time.
Fisker says expert's theory on garage blaze is incorrect originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 14 May 2012 15:55:00 EST.
While the investigation of the Fisker Karma that toasted a Texas garage is not over, pundits have begun to weigh in. Automotive News has found a particularly credible one in Jon Bereisa, CEO of Auto Lectrification and the chief engineer of the General Motors EV1 and systems architect for the Chevrolet Volt. And according to Bereisa, the poor packaging of the Karma's internal combustion engine is what likely caused the fire.

"The engine is shoehorned into that bay, because they had to use a larger engine, because it was too heavy a car," Bereisa told AN. "As a result, there's no room for exhaust routing and heat shielding to route the heat away."

The Karma uses a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine sourced from GM. In the Karma, however, the Ecotec does not drive the wheels, but acts as a generator to supplement and recharge the batteries. The report says that a fluid leak, combined with tight engine compartment confines and the resultant high heat from the gasoline engine's exhaust and the would have been enough to cause the fire. Five months ago, the Karma was recalled due to potential coolant leakage from the battery.
Fisker is maintaining that it is not the car's battery pack that is at fault, and has pointed to other potential sources of the blaze, according to the report, telling AN that, "There are myriad combustible materials that could be in the garage, in the wheel arch, or picked up on the roadside."
Engine packaging to blame for Fisker Karma garage fire? originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 11 May 2012 12:01:00 EST.
All the Justin Bieber in the world doesn't seem like enough for Fisker to catch a break. First it was a 2012 Fisker Karma spectacularly crapping out on Consumer Reports. Now a Texas fire investigator has said that a house fire originated with the plug-in hybrid, according to AutoWeek.

The fire consumed the car while doing "substantial damage" to the garage and spreading to the suburban Houston home, but nobody was injured in the blaze. According to the report, two other vehicles parked in the garage, an Acura NSX and Mercedes-Benz SUV, were also damaged. Estimates of the extent of the destruction were said to be $100,000, not including the damage to the other cars - and we're assuming not including the Karma either, given that the six-figure car was a complete loss, according to the report.

The fire started within three minutes of the Karma being parked in the garage, after the owner said he smelled burning rubber. According to the report, the car had not yet been plugged in to charge. The Karma is said to be new enough that it was built after the battery recall, and the report indicates that the battery pack survived the fire intact.

Though the Fort Bend County chief fire investigator told AW that "the Karma was the origin of the fire," and that it resembled a golf cart fire, something that happens roughly 50 times a year in the area, the incident is still being investigated.

When contacted for comment, Fisker's response was to tell AutoWeek not to jump to any conclusions: "There are conflicting reports and uncertainty surrounding this particular incident. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated."

The automaker then went on to speculate about "fraud or malicious intent," stating that "fireworks were found in the garage" and that "an electrical panel located in the garage... is also being examined," according to the report. Fisker also told AW that it believes the car's battery pack "does not appear to have been a contributing factor in this incident."
Fisker Karma to blame for garage fire in Texas? originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 08 May 2012 19:51:00 EST.
Financial concerns are one thing. No one ever said a Fisker Karma wouldn't look stunning cruising through the Swiss Alps.

Thus, it's good to know that the California-based extended-range plug-in vehicle maker will have the chance to show off its Karma luxury sedan across the pond in the first-ever Bodensee-Elektrik Rallye, which runs through this weekend.

The race goes through Switzerland, Germany and Austria and will subject the Karma to "hundreds of kilometers in a true test of both economy and endurance," Fisker says. The automaker estimates that the Karma can go about 50 miles in electric-only mode (EPA says 32) and about 300 miles when using up a fully-charged battery and a full tank of, uh, petrol.

Fisker also added that Karma sales in Europe are "continuing at pace" and that the sedan "is becoming a more frequent site [sic] on the road," but the company did not disclose sales specifics.

Fisker is trying to raise more cash for production of the Karma as well as for its upcoming Atlantic model after the U.S. Department of Energy froze most of the $529 million in loans earmarked for the company because of production delays.
Continue reading Fisker Karma will enter inaugural Bodensee-Elektrik Rallye in the Alps

Fisker Karma will enter inaugural Bodensee-Elektrik Rallye in the Alps originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Sat, 05 May 2012 08:17:00 EST.
If you think the Fisker Karma isn't quite flashy enough, there is always the aftermarket. And, if you don't want to go the whole chrome routine à la Justin Bieber, you could look into the SR Auto Group's White Knight, which is a modified Karma inside and out. Mostly outside.

Details are kind of sparse, but the sharp white Karma has a paint job that matches a set of special white wheels. Up top, the White Knight has a strongly contrasting black solar roof, a theme emphasized by tinted windows. Instead of the standard 22-inch wheels, the White Knight uses PUR 2WO 22-inchers that SR Auto, "machined down to their raw aluminum core and sealed with a clear coating. The inserts were color matched with the exterior to create a flawless design that is completely tailored to the Karma." See for yourself in the gallery of SR Auto's pictures.
Fisker Karma 'White Knight' emphasizes color contrasts originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 02 May 2012 09:53:00 EST.
Is conservative ire at plug-in cars shifting (slowly) from the Chevrolet Volt to Fisker Automotive? A new attack ad targeting President Obama certainly brings the California-based automaker further into the political fight - following Fisker ex-chair's comments about Mitt Romney - by making insinuations that the DOE is spending money to create jobs in Finland. As regular readers know, this isn't true, even though there is a connection between Fisker and Finland because that's where Valmet builds the company's Karma model. The DOE did approve a $529-million loan to Fisker, but hasn't given the company all of the money and the money that was spent on the Karma was for engineering and design work done in the U.S., Fisker said.

Released Thursday, the ad conflates these facts, as you can see down below. The DOE responded charitably, saying critics "are misunderstanding the loan," instead of accusing them of playing politics. The ad, which looks at various cases of what it calls wasteful spending, was released by Americans for Prosperity (AFP), a conservative group that gets some funding from the Koch brothers.

According to Delaware Online, two Republican U.S. Senators - Chuck Grassley (IA) and John Thune (SD) - are picking up the attack baton, writing a letter to DOE Secretary Stephen Chu Friday asking him to defend the Fisker loan. They write, "Though the Department of Energy has now frozen the remaining portion of Fisker's loan, questions remain as to why a loan was extended to this now 'troubled' auto company in the first place." The DOE is looking into things on its own, announcing recently it would assign a loan consultant to the Fisker situation.
Continue reading Fisker's DOE loan is new right-wing political target of 'wasteful spending'

Fisker's DOE loan is new right-wing political target of 'wasteful spending' originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Sat, 28 Apr 2012 16:07:00 EST.
Fisker Automotive may not exactly be chummy with the U.S. federal government these days, but at least it's getting some love from the Middle East.

The California-based extended-range plug-in vehicle maker reached an agreement with Al-Futtaim Group to distribute its cars throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Al-Futtaim sells Lexus, Volvo, Jeep, Toyota and other vehicles throughout the Middle East. The distributor will open a Fisker dealership in Dubai this year.

As for the U.S. government, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which has $193 million in loans out to Fisker, is working with Los Angeles-based investment bank and restructuring expert Houlihan Lokey to keep tabs of Fisker's attempts to raise its own cash, Bloomberg Businessweek reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the situation.

The DOE, in an e-mail to Bloomberg, copped to hiring consultants to tracking companies that have received its loans, but didn't specifically comment on Fisker. The DOE, which slated $529 million in loans for Fisker, froze the credit line after distributing less than $200 million because of production delays related to the Fisker Karma. Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and John Thune (R-SD) are among the members of Congress that have questioned the DOE's decision to grant a loan to Fisker.

Last week, ex-Fisker Chairman Ray Lane went as far as blaming Mitt Romney for the loan-distribution issues, saying that the Republican presidential candidate is using the issue for political gain. Meanwhile, Fisker is still deciding on whether it will use a former General Motors plant in Delaware to build its upcoming Atlantic (formerly Project Nina) sedan.
Continue reading Fisker reaches out to Middle East; DOE reaches for loan consultant

Fisker reaches out to Middle East; DOE reaches for loan consultant originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 09:52:00 EST.
Ah, election season...

Former Fisker Automotive Chairman and current investor Ray Lane is blaming Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for the delays in procuring federal loans that have been earmarked for the maker of the extended-range plug-in Karma and the upcoming Atlantic, according to Delaware Online.

In an e-mail, Lane said Romney is mistakenly grouping the Fisker loan from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) with money given to failed companies like solar-panel producer Solyndra. Lane, managing director at venture-capital company Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, said in the alleged e-mail that he's planning to contact Romney, whose father George Romney was once president of American Motors Corp.

The Fisker issue is particularly acute in Delaware, where the automaker had planned to expand employment and build a production version of the Atlantic sedan (a.k.a. Project Nina) shown above at a former General Motors factory. Those plans have been put on hold as Fisker sorts out its financial situation. Delaware Online reported late last week that Fisker had laid off 12 more workers at the factory, which was characterized as "absolutely empty."

The company was set to receive $529 million in federal loans but has only received a fraction of that and hasn't received funding since last year.
Ex-Fisker chair blames Mitt Romney attacks for DOE loan hold-up originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 14:03:00 EST.
Last we heard, Fisker Automotive was still "committed" to building the recently revealed Atlantic sedan at the former GM plant in Delaware. A few years ago, Fisker announced that site would be the company's new domestic production home (the Fisker Karma extended-range plug-in hybrid is made by Valmet in Finland). Still, Fisker did say that any definitive statement on the Atlantic's production location would not come until the end of the summer.

So we were interested to read new reports from local media that show more signs that the Atlantic might not ever be built in Delaware. On Friday, Delaware Online reports, 12 more workers - including engineers and maintenance technicians - were laid off at the plant, leaving "only a small maintenance team" left there. One of those let go was Jeff Garland, who had been working on community affairs and business development efforts in Delaware. He said the plant is currently "absolutely empty." This is because Fisker has taken out the old GM equipment but has not yet installed the machines it would need to build the Atlantic. As Garland told Delaware Online, "I think what happened was the budget numbers are so tight right now and they're working so hard to preserve as much cash as they can that something had to give. We're not making a car in Wilmington right now, so given that situation it was an obvious place to make a cut."

Fisker spokesman Russell Datz said that the company has flexible plans, and will hire people when "we ramp up the project again." Production of the Atlantic is being delayed, at least in part, because of issues with Fisker's DOE loan. You can read more about that here.

Then there's news that some of the components that Fisker and Ford will use in hybrid and all-electric cars are now being made by Magna E-Car Systems in Michigan. The inverters Magna makes are used in the Karma and this new production does not in any way predict a shift of Atlantic production to Michigan.
More layoffs at Fisker; Delaware plant is 'absolutely empty' originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 17 Apr 2012 13:48:00 EST.
While we normally don't care whether or not Justin Beiber wakes up and takes a breath each morning, it is unfortunate news when the teen pop idol is gifted a six-figure plug-in hybrid produced by one of the world's best designers, and then proceeds to wrap it in chrome, stick on some fuscia LEDs and drive it around on giant black wheels.

Celebrity-stalking site TMZ caught the Beiber taking his one true love, the also-famous-for-reasons-beyond-our-comprehension Selena Gomez, to Chick-fil-A in the reflective Karma. The editors at TMZ seem to agree with us that Bieber's treatment of his Karma is criminal, but were surprised to discover that chroming one's car is well within the rule of law.

That doesn't mean the Bieb's daily driver is entirely copacetic, as the tiny strip of fuscia LEDs installed under the front grille violate California law. It also violates the laws of good taste, but that's just our opinion.
Continue reading Justin Bieber chromes his Fisker Karma

Justin Bieber chromes his Fisker Karma originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 10 Apr 2012 15:30:00 EST.
Fisker Automotive may drop plans to use a Delaware factory to build its upcoming Atlantic sedan and is looking at "other options," Automotive News is reporting, citing an interview with company CEO Tom LaSorda. The company, in an online meeting with owners of the Fisker Karma extended-range plug-in sedan, spelled out some of the issues that have been plaguing the car.

Fisker will hold off on deciding on the Atlantic's production site until the end of summer, which will delay the debut of the model. LaSorda maintains that Fisker will be able to produce the Atlantic with or without Department of Energy funding, Automotive News reports. Fisker's director of corporate communications, Russell Datz, tells AutoblogGreen that the company remains "committed to Delaware" but admits that if the rest of the company's DOE loan money does not come through, the plan to build the Atlantic in Delaware could change.

Overheard at the reveal event for the Fisker Atlantic this evening: This is the car you buy your secretary.

Yes, the altogether good-looking Atlantic sets a new high for plug-in hybrid looks, and even though Fisker is tight-lipped about things like all-electric range, cost or an estimated delivery date, for now the car speaks for itself. All anyone would tell us is that the Atlantic will come in at "a much lower price point than the Karma," as Fisker executive chairman Henrik Fisker put it, suggesting something in the range of the Audi A5 or "the upper end of the BMW 3 Series." So, $45,000? In any case, Fisker seems to have learned its lesson with the Karma situation/delay, and is keeping mum about its future plans.

One thing Fisker was very happy to talk about was that the Atlantic is a car that will be built and will go into production. It is "a promise we are going to deliver," he said.

Whenever the Atlantic arrives, it is most likely going to be incredibly similar to what we see in the pictures here (and in recent spy shots). Fisker said that his company does not do concepts - see how little the Karma changed between auto show reveal and showroom. And that's fine by us. The lines and angles of the little Karma might be too busy for some, but in person they most certainly work. One thing to note is that in person the headlights have a frozen/frosted look that offers an 'eagle eye' with a strength of strong character not seen on a production car before," the Fisker press release says.

Despite the off-hand suggestion from the peanut gallery that this is a car for those with a bit of money to throw around, Fisker repeatedly emphasized the practicality of the Atlantic. For one thing, it will have the second-generation EVer (Electric Vehicle with extended range) powertrain that incorporates a BMW four-cylinder gasoline engine, because, Fisker said, "range equals freedom." He also showed the gathered media how the rear seats fold down and called it "a pure family vehicle." Must be nice to be in that family.
Continue reading Fisker Atlantic revealed, promises to be available to mortals someday [w/video]

Fisker Atlantic revealed, promises to be available to mortals someday [w/video] originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 03 Apr 2012 22:02:00 EST.
Here it is, folks. This is the car that was under cover in the spy shots we showed you a few days ago, and it's going to be called the Fisker Atlantic when it debuts this week at the New York Auto Show. These two images of the car appeared today on a Czech website, and the rear shot clearly shows a license plate bearing the name "Atlantic."

Previously called Project Nina, the Atlantic will slot in Fisker's fledgeling lineup below the Karma, and reportedly cost considerably less. While any talk of pricing is just a guess at this point, rumor has it the Atlantic will be about half the price of the Karma, putting it squarely in the $45,000-$55,000 range. It's a plug-in series hybrid, just like its big brother, but the Atlantic will reportedly use a turbocharged four-cylinder from BMW as its range-extending generator.

We'll have more detailed information about the Atlantic when it officially debuts at the New York Auto Show this week, so come back for our live show coverage on Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5.
Project Nina revealed as Fisker Atlantic, images leak early originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Sun, 01 Apr 2012 18:00:00 EST.
We were excited to see the first spy shots of the Fisker Nina yesterday but now we're wondering if this isn't the Nina at all.

Oh, we're still sure the car in these pictures is the one that Fisker will be unveiling in New York Tuesday night, but take another look at the rear badges on the car. Notice the big blue stickers? Whatever name they are covering up seems like it has too many letters to just spell Nina. The enthusiasts over at Tesla Motors Club have been playing with photo editing software to try and see if they can get some of the letters to jump out, but their best efforts haven't come to anything conclusive.

But we know they're hungry for more info, as are we. Therefore, we wanted to share the uncompressed versions of the pictures that show the word covered by blue tape for everyone's digital manipulation pleasure. So far, Fisker's names - Karma, Surf, Nina - don't seem to fit a pattern, so we're curious to see what the Nina's actual name might be. You got any guesses?
Is the Fisker Nina not the Fisker Nina? originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 30 Mar 2012 11:48:00 EST.
Who wants to wait until the official unveiling of the Fisker Nina plug-in hybrid next week when we can see spy shots right this second? Neither do we.

So, what do the shots reveal? For starters, we can see that the Nina is indeed shorter than its Karma big brother. This is expected, but the impression we have is that the Karma's design language translates quite well into a vehicle about the size of a BMW 5 Series. The front end, too, sports a moustache-like grille that's similar to the one on the Karma. On the back side, the "EVer" badge is still proudly in place, but the non-functional diamond-shaped exhaust outlets are missing. The four-door sedan's rear doors have the handles hidden smoothly between the window and the C-pillar. Then there are the wheels. It's hard to miss those. If you want to compare the Nina with the Karma directly, open the gallery above as well as this gallery in another tab and click away.

The problem with these images is that they still don't tell us much about the car itself. We've heard the cost for the Nina, which is supposed to be powered by a BMW four-cylinder engine, will be about the same as a top-of-the-line BMW 3 Series. That implies something north of $45,000, despite what Vice President Joe Biden said back in October of 2009: "It looks like a four-door Ferrari, I can't believe it's only going to be $40,000." We'll hopefully know more when we get to the New York Auto Show next week.

After all the problems Fisker has had with the Karma launch and the DOE loan, it's important to remember that it's the vehicle you see above that the DOE has been helping with all along. Do you like where your tax dollars have gone?
Fisker Nina caught peeking out before New York reveal originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 29 Mar 2012 16:45:00 EST.
The Fisker Karma was recalled late last year because of improper alignment of the batteries' hose clamps, but that was quickly resolved. Today, A123 Systems - the company that makes the Karma pack - announced a replacement program for "battery modules and packs that may contain defective prismatic cells produced at A123's Livonia, Mich. manufacturing facility." The $55 million program will kick off with shipments this week and does not affect any cells, prismatic or cylindrical, made at A123 facilities outside of Livonia.

A123's CEO, David Vieau, said in a statement that, "We have isolated the root cause of the defective cells and we are confident that we have pinpointed the source of the defect and corrected it. As a result of engineering analysis and testing, we believe this is not a safety issue, and we have determined the root cause and have taken corrective actions."

A123 has over 20 deals to supply lithium-ion batteries in vehicles as different as BMW hybrids and Via Trucks, the Chevy Spark EV and Tata's hybrid buses. Today's announcement did not mention any specific vehicle by name, but Green Car Reports reports that the Karma that recently died while it was being tested by Consumer Reports was indeed affected by bad cells from Livonia. A123 says that the defective cells do not pose a safety risk and that the cost of the replacement program will be spread out over the next several quarters.

*UPDATE: Fisker has issued a statement on the matter, adding that "A123 is replacing all impacted battery modules and packs for the Fisker Karma." Fisker is also extending the warranty period from 50 months/50,000 miles to 60 months/60,000 miles in the U.S. and from 48 months/100,000 km to 60 months/100,000 km in Europe. Fisker calls this a "significant upgrade to the VIP Customer Care Coverage" that all 2012 Karma buyers get.
Looks like Fisker Automotive's looking for its own range-extender.

The California-based maker of the extended-range plug-in Karma luxury sedan, is looking to raise at least $100 million in funds by the end of this month in order to restart production of its Delaware plant, Bloomberg News reported, citing two people who declined to be identified.

The company is looking for cash to fix a glitch in the Karma, which has sold about 600 units since starting production last year, and restart work in Delaware, according to the wire service. The money would bring Fisker's total fundraising to about $1 billion, Bloomberg said, adding that Fisker spokesman Russell Datz declined to comment on the fundraising efforts.

Restarting work on the Delaware factory would speed up the development of Fisker's less expensive Nina model.

Fisker, which has taken about 2,500 Karma orders, was set to get $529 million in U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loans, but has received less than $200 million because of production delays. Because of such funding issues, Fisker laid off some workers.

Earlier this week, Fisker put out a teaser sketch of the Nina, which will be shown off at the New York International Auto Show next month. That model is set to start production next year, with sales beginning as soon as late 2014.
Fisker reportedly seeks $100 million in funding by end of the month originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Sat, 24 Mar 2012 08:19:00 EST.
