The official, revamped website for Fisker Automotive appears to be more of an homage to the company's focus on style rather than an accurate snapshot of the struggling automaker's actual troubles.

When you click on the homepage, you'll see red, white and blue images of its elegantly designed Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports car, which Bob Lutz said is "quite possibly the most beautiful four-door sedan ever." Click on the "Tomorrow" tab to see images of the Atlantic, Sunset and Surf models - which we all know may never make it to dealer showrooms. Fisker offers up a hopeful message, though: when you scroll over "Tomorrow," a pop-up reads, "Tomorrow never dies."

The redesigned website has taken awhile to be launched. On April 24, the site was down all day, right at the same time as Fisker and the US Department of Energy were being raked over the coals during a Congressional hearing. There were also court papers discovered taking Fisker to task for unpaid bills, including the designer of the website and mobile apps claiming the company owed $535,000.

Whatever the backstory is, there are still some glitches on the site. Click on the "Press" tab and the "Contact" page comes up. The inquiries[at]fiskerautomotive.com is the only contact point mentioned (three times), but when you try emailing that address, it gets bounced back as undeliverable. In the FAQ, the "Are there other Fisker models?" question does not mention the Atlantic at all. Also, the "About Fisker - Story" link also goes nowhere, which is poetic and telling.
After outage, Fisker Automotive website hints at positive future originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 06 May 2013 18:01:00 EST.
Two days after a Congressional hearing about a US Department of Energy loan to Fisker Automotive, Bob Lutz wrote a column pondering what should be done to stop the financial hemorrhaging at the company that builds - well, used to build - the Karma extended-range sports car. When Lutz was vice chairman at General Motors, a federal bailout kept that company's factories open and helped bring the Chevrolet Volt to market. So, should the same sort of logic be applied here and Fisker given access to more money? Lutz wrote, "After all, the feds bailed out GM! What's the difference? Ah, there is one! GM was a product powerhouse, preparing the best line of cars and trucks in the last 50 years."

Lutz had good things to say about the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid itself, calling it "quite possibly the most beautiful four-door sedan ever" and that the powertrain technology was ground-breaking (while acknowledging that it is similar to what the Volt uses). But there were a host of problems: battery pack issues, the A123 bankruptcy, losing 800 Karmas in New Jersey following the hurricane and producing a very small volume of cars for sale all worked together to place Fisker in world of trouble, Lutz wrote.

The Fisker Karma is "quite possibly the most beautiful four-door sedan ever" - Bob Lutz.

GM, on the other hand, was dragged down by "overwhelming legacy costs." Lutz didn't elaborate, but these are usually considered to come from GM's labor union contracts and the massive costs of manufacturing too many cars through too many brands. In short, Lutz is basically saying GM was too big to fail but an ambitious start-up like Fisker is not a good investment. But he did forgot to mention Tesla Motors, another DOE automotive loan recipient that seems to be working out pretty well.

Lutz wants to see Fisker survive, if for no other reason than to support his investment in VL Destino which he designed with industrialist Gilbert Villereal. This performance sedan is built using a Karma body with with a Corvette drivetrain and Lutz says demand is strong for the VL Destino while electric Karmas are just languishing on dealer lots. He also wrote, "The green craze is, frankly, ebbing, and interest in conventional cars remains strong."

In the end, Lutz waffles on the question he poses, saying that whether or not Fisker should be given more federal money is, "A tough call. Glad I don't have to make it!" Click through to read the full Forbes article.
Bob Lutz: GM deserved federal money, but Fisker, well, who knows? originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 29 Apr 2013 16:30:00 EST.
With a title like "Green Energy Oversight: Examining the Department of Energy's Bad Bet on Fisker Automotive" it was no surprise that the slant of today's Congressional hearing by the House Oversight subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation, and Regulatory Affairs was overwhelmingly negative. In fact, for over three hours, it was perhaps the definition of political theater. After all, where else do you get to hear a House of Representatives member (Gerald Connolly, D-VA) say the hearing was like a Soviet show-trial while Darell Issa (R-CA) compared Henrik Fisker (co-founder of Fisker Automotive and a witness today) to Bricklin and Tucker? Oh, and Issa also said Fisker made mistakes that failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney would not have made his first day out of business school. All this and more was on display today in Washington, DC.

The hearing was incredibly - and unsurprisingly - political, with Democrats speaking positively about the overall DOE loan program and Republicans attacking Fisker for taking $192 million (almost always rounded up to $200 million) and not paying it back. Not yet, anyway. Both Fisker (who made it clear he was not speaking for the company, since his official connections have ended) and Fisker COO Bernhard Koehler said that Fisker has not yet lost any taxpayer money, and Koehler said there are still plans in place to pay everything back. Fisker's take was that there is a lot of value left in the automaker that could be brought to bear on paying the DOE back. Of course, Fisker's official website has been down all day, in case you were looking for one more sign that things are not going well for the California automaker.
Continue reading Fisker goes to Congress: DOE attacked amid hints loan could still be paid back

Fisker goes to Congress: DOE attacked amid hints loan could still be paid back originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 19:38:00 EST.
As we get ready for a Congressional hearing later today, news of money that Fisker Automotive owes to the US government is on the mind of regulators and the public. Therefore, the US Department of Energy has announced that it did recently collect $21 million from the struggling automaker. The DOE says that the $21 million was paid back April 11. The company's first repayment, of $10 million out of the roughly $192 million that the company took (it was originally granted a $529 million loan but never took all of the money), was due Monday but the company did not send that check. DOE spokeswoman Aoife McCarthy said in a statement that the agency is "taking strong and appropriate action on behalf of taxpayers," and that the $21 million came from a reserve account. Whether the money covers the payment due is not clear.

Today, the ever-positive-in-the-face-of-trouble co-founder Hekrik Fisker (since resigned), company CEO Tony Posawatz (maybe; reports differ) and COO Bernhard Koehler will be questioned by Republican Darrell Issa's (R-CA) Government Reform and Oversight Committee. Word is that Henrik will say the company could "survive and move forward if it can secure financial and strategic resources, to build on its achievements so far" and that Fisker's problems are the result of "a confluence of events," which sounds like we could be in for some testy testimony.

It's pretty clear Issa has got a negative attitude about the company, since the hearing's official title is: "Green Energy Oversight: Examining the Department of Energy's Bad Bet on Fisker Automotive." We'll have more later today.
Fisker execs will be questioned today over DOE loan, repayments originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 24 Apr 2013 08:45:00 EST.
Among the things we're going to miss out on if/when Fisker Automotive goes bust is the legitimate description of "Coronado" as a color. That apparently orange-ish hue is one of four interior colors Fisker was planning on for its 2014 model-year Karma extended-range vehicle, according to Fisker Buzz.

The three other colors planned for the two-toned interiors were "East Bluff" (which appears somewhat gold-ish); and "Ocean Side" and "Palisades." No, we don't know what colors those last two names imply, either.

Regardless, such interior colors aren't likely to see the light of day, with Fisker recently laying off its employees and bringing in a bankruptcy specialist. Last week, research firm PrivCo estimated that, when all is said and done, Fisker will have spent about $660,000 for every one of the fewer than 2,500 vehicles it produced.
Proposed interior colors for 2014 Fisker Karma included 'Coronado,' 'Palisades' originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 23 Apr 2013 07:54:00 EST.

Looks like the $100,000 or so Leo and Bieber plunked down for their Fisker Karma extended-range plug-in vehicles may have been a bargain. The California-based automaker, which appears to be headed for bankruptcy, spent an estimated $660,000 for every one of fewer than 2,500 vehicles it made during its short production history, research firm PrivCo says in a new study. That doesn't mean each Karma actually cost $660,000 to make, just that all the money spent by Fisker, divided by the number of cars produced, result in that number.

PrivCo has put together a detailed timeline of Fisker's money gains and losses, and you can see the gory details here. PrivCo CEO Sam Hamadeh, in an April 17 statement, called Fisker "the largest venture capital-backed debacle in U.S. history." In addition to the $193 million the company drew down from its $529 million credit line with the government, the company raised about $1.2 billion.

The company recently furloughed its US workers and has brought on an advisor for a potential bankruptcy. And last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Fisker will also be subject of a hearing from House Republicans, who will likely have a field day with PrivCo's report. Add this to the news that Fisker continued to use funds from its US Department of Energy loan after it had violated terms of the loan multiple times, and you can see how Congress members who've been bashing green-energy loans the federal government's been doling out are looking forward to the April 24 hearing.

Each Karma 'cost' Fisker $660,000 to produce originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 19 Apr 2013 16:27:00 EST.
Fisker Automotive and what was formerly A123 Systems have received approval of their settlement in which Fisker's claims against the bankrupt battery maker were reduced by 89 percent, Bloomberg News reports.

Fisker's claims against what's now B456 Systems were reduced to $15 million from $140 million. A US bankruptcy court judge in Delaware approved the settlement Wednesday. Fisker also agreed to sign off on the battery maker's liquidation plan. B456 received federal approval in late January to have most of its assets acquired by China-based Wanxiang for about $256.6 million.

Of course, Fisker is dealing with its own liquidity issues, allegedly owing its landlord and web designer more than $700,000, combined, in late bills. The maker of the Karma extended-range plug-in has reportedly furloughed its US workers and may be close to filing for bankruptcy.
Fisker, A123 settlement reducing $140m in claims to $15m approved originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 18 Apr 2013 17:56:00 EST.
The Fisker Karma may be able to go 125 miles per hour, but the company making the extended-range plug-in doesn't appear to be outrunning its creditors.

Fisker Automotive allegedly owes two creditors more than $700,000 on late bills, GigaOM says in two separate articles. GigaOM cites court papers that say the landlord of the company's Anaheim, CA, factory says the automaker is short $174,000 in unpaid April rent, while the designer of the company's website and mobile apps claims that Fisker has a bill for $535,000. Fisker's been renting its factory space since late 2010.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that House Republicans, long critical of federal loans granted to "green technology" companies like Fisker, will hold a hearing later this month on the company and have requested co-founder Henrik Fisker and Fisker CEO Tony Posawatz to attend. Mr. Fisker stepped down as the company's executive chairman last month. Fisker drew down about $192 million of its $529 million line of credit with the US Department of Energy before funds were frozen because of missed production deadlines.

The California-based automaker has furloughed its US employees and has hired a law firm for a possible bankruptcy proceeding.
Fisker owes $700,000 to landlord, web designer originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 17 Apr 2013 09:56:00 EST. House Republicans have been critical of the Obama Administration over new-energy loans to companies such as Tesla Motors, and will hold a hearing later this month to discuss struggling California-based Fisker Automotive, the Wall Street Journal says.

Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), of the Government Reform and Oversight Committee, said he will also accelerate a probe into Fisker's business, and told Automotive News that Fisker, "is a design company, not a manufacturing company. It was destined to fail from the beginning. The greater concern is, does this affect more viable companies, whether they received loans or not?"

Co-founder Henrik Fisker, CEO Tony Posawatz and COO Bernhard Koehler are among those being asked to testify in the April 24 hearing, the Journal reports. Fisker resigned as the company's executive chairman in March.
Republicans have criticized the Obama Administration for US Energy Department loans to companies such as electric-vehicle maker Tesla, now-bankrupt solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC and Fisker, whose $529-million credit line with the government was frozen after just $192 million was distributed because the automaker missed certain production quotas. Nonetheless, Fisker (the man, not the company) has asked for travel expenses reimbursement, but told the Detroit News, "If they are not going to reimburse me as guided by (a staff member), I am still planning to travel on my own expense to testify as I have nothing to hide."

The top-selling dealership offering the Fisker Karma has got some deep discounts available as it awaits the future of the troubled automaker. Fisker of Orange County is dropping the price well below the manufacturer's suggested retail level of between $105,000 and $120,000. In fact, a Karma recently sold for "just" $80,000.

"I'm certainly more flexible now than I was, but we're not having a fire sale."

Jeff Robinson, sales manager at the Irvine, CA, dealership, confirmed they're offering discounts in combination with a $7,500 tax credit, but declined to be much more specific. Discounts are being offered - especially on demonstration vehicles with a few miles on them - and Robinson confirmed that the dealership did sell one for $80,000. That particular car had 12,000 miles on its odometer.

"I'm doing some very nice deals," Robinson said to the Orange County Register. "The next few owners are going to get a lot of car for the money. Everyone tries to haggle. I'm certainly more flexible now than I was ... but we're not having a fire sale."

Fisker of Orange County sold more than 140 of the plug-in cars last year and six last month. Dealers are able to set the selling price themselves, Fisker Automotive said.

Fisker dealers and potential and existing customers are very concerned about the future of the company. According to Robinson, potential buyers are asking about service in the event of a bankruptcy. While the cars come with an eight-year, 80,000 mile warranty, it may mean nothing if the automaker goes away. Robinson is hopeful that General Motors could come through if parts need replacement. This makes sense because some of the parts, including the plug-in hybrid's gasoline engine, are sourced from GM.

Resignation of the company's co-founder Henrik Fisker hasn't helped the tension dealers are facing over the company's future. More recently, they heard that the company is looking into a bankruptcy filing while it also looks for partners, investors or new owners. This morning, a round of layoffs hit the company. For now, offering discounts is one way to move the metal.
Fisker Karma discounted to $80,000, at one dealer, at least originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 05 Apr 2013 17:54:00 EST.
Any self-respecting dealer would refuse to sell a Fisker Karma extended-range plug-in for a mere $12,000, but Fisker Automotive may be taking that approach with former battery supplier A123 Systems by settling for about 11 cents on the dollar in a bankruptcy-court claim.

The California-based automaker settled with A123 Systems (which renamed its old assets to be liquidated B456 Systems) for $15 million, down from what had been $140 million in claims stemming from warranty breaches and resulting production delays caused by defective batteries, Bloomberg News reports, citing bankruptcy court records. A123 filed for bankruptcy in October, and US courts approved China-based Wanxiang to buy A123 for about $256.6 million in late January

Last month, Fisker furloughed its US employees and hired a law firm for possible bankruptcy proceedings. The company's co-founder and namesake Henrik Fisker stepped down as the company's executive chairman in March.
Fisker, A123 settle $140m supply claims for just $15 million originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 04 Apr 2013 15:56:00 EST.
Tony Posawatz, president and CEO of Fisker Automotive, recently made the case for how Fisker and other cleantech companies can find the right investors. Speaking at a conference in Santa Barbara, CA, Posawatz said new clean technologies take years to be adopted and investors should be patient.

Posawatz was interviewed by Wall Street Journal's Alan Murray during the newspaper's 2013 ECO:nomics conference March 20. Posawatz thinks that the future for cleantech companies like Fisker requires investors to adopt a different perspective. For one thing, you're investing in something that's way more than just a car. Posawatz said the Fisker Karma presents an opportunity to displace a lot of petroleum since it can be powered by the grid - and, in some areas, that mean moving your car with solar or wind power.

Then there's the lithium ion battery pack. According to Posawatz, the company "developed a pretty sophisticated, advanced batteries that puts cell phone batteries of a few years back to shame."

Fun fact: it took 50 years for half of US households to get electricity.

He thinks future investment opportunities will be consortium investments, where groups of people will invest in the infrastructure and ecosystem and not just one technology. One of his favorite fun facts to share is that it took 50 years for half of US households to get electricity. "Electricity in the household must have been a bad idea," he said.

Posawatz knows a lot about extended range cars, having served as vehicle line director for the Chevrolet Volt, and the industry in general. Capital is certainly a challenge in his industry, he admitted, and the auto industry is heavily regulated - the headline numbers is, of course, the 54.5 mpg by 2025 standard. Posawatz pointed out that Fisker took a government loan and made a real car, as did Tesla, with 98 percent of Fisker employees living in the US. The money also helped create a fantastic innovation - a new segment in the extended range car, Posawatz said. Plus, the Fisker Karma already meets the federal 2025 fuel requirements and the 2020 fuel economy standard announced recently in China. You can see the interview below.

Despite Posawatz's optimism, there are many questions left about Fisker. Here's one: What were the specific reasons that Henrik Fisker decided to leave his company? Speaking of investors, how about this one: Zhejiang Geely Holding Group is reportedly no longer interested in buying up a majority stake in Fisker. What's up with that?
Continue reading Fisker CEO Tony Posawatz asks investors for patience, says new tech can take time

Fisker CEO Tony Posawatz asks investors for patience, says new tech can take time originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 17:45:00 EST.
After furloughing its US workers, Fisker Automotive has hired a law firm for a potential bankruptcy, Reuters reports, citing a person familiar with the process.

Kirkland & Ellis is advising the California-based maker of the extended-range plug-in Karma for a potential bankruptcy filing, which hasn't produced a car in about eight months and is losing interest from two prospective China-based buyers. Fisker declined to comment to Reuters.

Fisker, which has raised $1.2 billion in equity, has also had about $336 million of its $529 million line of credit with the feds frozen because of its failure to meet certain production mandates. Meanwhile, China-based companies Dongfeng Motor Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group have stepped away from a potential acquisition because of Fisker's loan terms with the feds. One payment on the loan is due in April.

In March, co-founder and namesake Henrik Fisker resigned as executive chairman of the company. Mr. Fisker and Fisker CEO Tony Posawatz were believed to have disagreed over whether the company could feasibly grow with its current cash situation.
Fisker hires bankruptcy team after worker furlough originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Sun, 31 Mar 2013 17:55:00 EST.
The tea leaves are getting somewhat clearer over at Fisker Automotive with a new report saying the struggling automaker is furloughing its US workers this week, a month before a payment on the company's $529-million Department of Energy loan is due. Fisker never got the full amount, taking only about $193 million before the funds were frozen.

In a statement to Reuters, Fisker says not to worry: "This [furlough] is a common practice, particularly in the automotive industry, to manage costs and operations based on current activity levels and commercial requirements." Fisker has 200 workers in the US.
Fisker has not made any of its Karma plug-in hybrids since July and, two weeks ago, namesake Henrik Fisker left the company he co-founded. The chance that a Chinese company will come in and rescue the California-based automaker also appears to be dimming. Early last year, Fisker laid off a small number of workers because of difficulty in getting production of the Atlantic model going.
Fisker furloughs workers for one week, says it's 'common practice' in industry originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 28 Mar 2013 08:24:00 EST.
Well at least Henrik Fisker is putting his money where his mouth is. Or was. The co-founder of his eponymous California-based extended-range plug-in vehicle maker, who resigned as executive chairman and left the company last week, did his former company a solid and bought a Fisker Karma from a Santa Monica, CA, dealer to replace his company car, the Detroit News says. He joins Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Bieber among paying Fisker customers.

Mr. Fisker, who co-founded Fisker in 2004, also tells the publication that his resignation was the "most difficult decision I've ever made." Fisker stepped down as the company's CEO in February 2012 and offered few specifics on why he left completely last week, saying only that his departure was about "business strategy."

Fisker's exit only increases the number of questions surrounding the company, which is now headed by ex-General Motors executive and former Chevrolet Volt team leader Tony Posawatz. Fisker and Posawatz were said to have disagreed over financing issues, as the co-founder believed the company was well-capitalized enough to continue while Posawatz was interested in getting more funding before proceeding with more work on the Atlantic. One possible source of funds would be getting Fisker access to the approximately $337 million of the US government credit line that it was approved for but was then frozen because of missed quotas, the Detroit Bureau reports.

China-based Geely is holding off on making an offer for the California-based automaker, and the Detroit Bureau, citing people it didn't identify, now says that Dongfeng may be backing off as well. Fisker, the company, said in a statement last week that it "has a strong and experienced management team and its strategy has not changed."
As Fisker leaves his company, he buys brand-new Karma plug-in hybrid originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 19 Mar 2013 19:31:00 EST.
Last week, Fisker Automotive lost its namesake and co-founder Henrik Fisker because of "several major disagreements" between the designer-turned-automaker and other executives. After that blow, could there be any more bad news out there? Maybe, if you consider the mooted takeover of the California-based plug-in luxury automaker by the Chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group a good thing.

Geely is reportedly no longer interested in buying up a majority stake in Fisker, according to Reuters, which cites "two sources familiar with the matter." Just a few weeks ago, Geely was considered the favored bidder, with the Chinese state-owned Dongfeng Motor Group Co. the other major contender. Geely purchased Sweden's Volvo brand from Ford in 2010.

Reuters now reports that Dongfeng's final offer was submitted last week and that Geely will pass on making an offer at all. This doesn't necessarily mean that Dongfeng's bid to take over the stricken automaker will be accepted, but it would seem to have a better shot if it's the sole serious offer on the table.

As with the sale of A123 (Fisker's battery supplier) to Chinese company Wanxiang, not everyone is happy about Fisker potentially being sold to a Chinese company. Earlier, US Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said, "Technology developed with American taxpayer subsidies should not be sold off to China." Fisker was given a $528.7-million loan from the Department of Energy in 2009, but most of that money (all but around $200 million) was frozen because of problems at Fisker. According to an Automotive News report, Geely is walking away from the deal because it doesn't want the hassle of dealing with the complex nature of the DOE loan's conditions.

UPDATE: Fisker tells AutoblogGreen that the company is "still talking to multiple partners" but cannot "offer comment on individual negotiations due to the confidential nature of all the discussions."
Fisker fails to draw Geely bid after all [UPDATE] originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 18 Mar 2013 10:15:00 EST.
With friends like The Game, who needs Geely? The Los Angeles-based hip-hop artist (née Jayceon Terrell Taylor) recently bought a Cranberry-hued Fisker Karma extended-range plug-in vehicle for himself, then purchased three more of the $100,000 vehicles for his buddies.

The Game posted the news on his Twitter feed last week, calling Fisker "The most amazing NEWEST American car company." The rapper, who also posted some pictures to prove it (check them out below), follows Leonardo diCaprio (Fisker's first customer in 2011), Al Gore, Colin Powell and Justin Bieber as celebrities who've ponied up for the car.

Fisker's hoping some Chinese automakers take a similarly optimistic view of the Karma. The company, which hasn't produced vehicles in about seven months, had almost two thirds of its $529 million US government credit line frozen and is subject to acquisition bids. So far, Dongfeng Motor Corp. and Volvo parent Zhejiang Geely Holding Group have reportedly expressed interest in the California-based company. Of course, with yesterday's resignation by co-founder Henrik Fisker, what happens next is anyone's guess.
The Game buys four Fisker Karmas for himself, friends originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:56:00 EST.
The last time we talked to Henrik Fisker, he was a non-stop stream of optimism about the company he cofounded to build luxury plug-in hybrid automobiles. This, despite a ton of negative developments for the company in 2012. His outlook has taken a turn, apparently, since Fisker has reportedly resigned from the company that bears his name. No detailed reasons were given, but in a statement sent to Autocar, the official word is:

Effective as of Wednesday 13 March 2013, Henrik Fisker has resigned from Fisker Automotive as executive chairman, and has left the company. The main reasons for his resignation are several major disagreements that Henrik Fisker has with the Fisker Automotive executive management on the business strategy.

The last major executive shakeup at Fisker happened last August, when Tony Posawatz shifted away from the Chevrolet Volt team to become Fisker's CEO, replacing Tom LaSorda. We have asked Fisker for comment and clarification, but have not yet heard back. What this all means for the future of the company is uncertain. Anyone want to guess what these "major disagreements" are?

UPDATE: Fisker sent us an official statement, which you can find below. The key line is that Fisker's "strategy has not changed. Mr. Fisker's departure is not expected to impact the Company's pursuit of strategic partnerships and financing to support Fisker Automotive's continued progress."
Continue reading Henrik Fisker resigns due to "major disagreements" with other execs [UPDATE]

Henrik Fisker resigns due to "major disagreements" with other execs [UPDATE] originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 13 Mar 2013 11:15:00 EST.
Fisker Automotive is accusing battery maker and former vendor A123 Systems of funny math after the latter company filed documents of its debt levels with the US Bankruptcy Court, Reuters says.

The California-based maker of the extended-range plug-in Karma says A123 owes it more than $212 million, much of that coming from warranty breaches (and ensuing production delays) stemming from defective batteries supplied to Fisker. A123 disagrees, and says it owes Fisker just $124 million. Fisker also says A123 "may be overstating how much, and when, creditors would get money," Reuters writes. An A123 attorney didn't respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Massachusetts-based A123 filed for bankruptcy last October and in late January received government approval to be bought out by China-based Wanxiang Group for about $257 million.
Fisker says A123 is discounting its debt levels originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 12 Mar 2013 18:01:00 EST.
In the overall scheme of things, having your Twitter account hacked isn't as bad as a flood or a fire. So, perhaps the "The Fastest Way To Lose BodyFat in (2)Weeks" tweet that Fisker Automotive sent out today isn't going to cause anyone to lose sleep, especially since it was almost instantly fixed. Not long after the body fat tweet went out, someone at Fisker took charge and wrote: "We know that the fans and followers of Fiskerauto don't need to lose weight... Disregard our last tweet as we were hacked like other OEMS."

Roger Ormisher, Fisker's senior director of global corporate communications & PR, told AutoblogGreen, "We became aware of the offending tweet in less than 30 minutes and promptly posted an apology. No information was taken and we will continue to monitor and our Social Media channels closely."

This is the latest in a string of high-profile Twitter hacks, including attacks against Jeep and Burger King. In those events, the hackers mucked around with background images and sent out some profane tweets. At least the Fisker hacker kept it clean, which is fitting.
Like Jeep, Fisker Twitter account briefly hacked, offers way to lose body fat originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 20 Feb 2013 19:45:00 EST.
