Driving from Los Angeles to Seattle in an EV that merely requires a few sips of water along the way? Fantastic, sure, but that's pretty much what Israel-based Phinergy is promising with its "aluminum-air" battery, according to a Bloomberg News video.

Phinergy is testing out a retrofitted Citroen C1 that has a lithium-ion battery in the trunk as well as one of Phinergy's 55-pound batteries serving as a range extender. The battery, reports Bloomberg (and translated from science lingo into something more digestible by Green Car Reports), contains aluminum plates that serve as an anode to the air's cathode, letting the driver fill the battery with water every two-hundred miles or so to create a recharge. Each plate provides about 20 miles worth of driving (they would have to be replaced and Phinergy hasn't gotten into what that entails).

The major advancement by Phinergy, which gets funding from Israel's Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, is that its technology prevents carbon dioxide from hindering the aluminum-air cells. The product may be commercially available by 2017.

The upshot is that the battery can serve as a 1,000-mile range-extender to the li-ion battery's 100-mile range, which would make for a pretty nice West Coast road trip a few short years from now. Maybe.

We're being duped by Big Oil. The worse part is that governments around the world are working tirelessly to make sure the game is rigged in their favor. That's what Lester Brown, president of the Earth Policy Institute, is saying, and he has the numbers to back the statement up.

Estimates from the Global Subsidies Initiative and International Energy Agency say more than $620 billion was spent by governments to subsidize fossil fuel energy in 2011. About $100 million of that went into production and about $523 billion was used to subsidize consumption. Higher world oil prices drove those numbers up 20 percent over the previous year.

About $100 million went into production subsidies and about $523 billion was used to subsidize consumption.

Looking into the consumption front, $285 billion went to oil, $104 billion to natural gas, $3 billion to coal and the remaining $131 was basically evenly divided among these three energy sources for electricity consumption. One major side effect of governments spending these subsidies has been cutting the prices people paid for fossil energy by about 25 percent. That has encouraged consumption and waste, and hindered efforts to stabilize the climate.

The countries spending the most on fossil fuel subsidies have a few recurring themes. These are generally developing, unstable nations where oil plays a big role in their economies, and their traffic congestion and air quality can be atrocious. They're exporting a lot of oil to first-world countries like the US, and their economies depend heavily on fossil fuels. Middle Eastern countries topped the list on a per person basis spending basis, and also ranked high on the world's top carbon emitters per capita. Quality of life can be a serious problem in these markets, and their governments are subsidizing the problem.

One of the ironies is the much smaller level of subsidy support that governments spend on clean, renewable energy.

One of the ironies is the much smaller level of subsidy support that governments spend on clean, renewable energy. In 2011, about 14 percent of the amount spent on global fossil subsidies - about $88 billion - was almost equally divided and paid to solar, wind, biomass electricity and biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel).

"Clearly, the deck is stacked against renewables," Brown wrote. Upstart renewable energy companies need government investment to invent new markets, while Big Oil has been highly profitable. In 2012, the Big Five oil companies - Royal Dutch Shell , ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron and ConocoPhillips - collectively took in $137 billion in profits.
How Big Oil gets bigger: over $620 Billion spent on subsidies for fossil fuel in 2011 originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 04 Mar 2013 14:01:00 EST.
Shai Agassi's faith remains strong. The Better Place founder, who was removed as the company's CEO in October, still believes that a company that powers electric vehicles with swappable batteries and a subscription-based revenue model can be successful ... if operated properly.

While declining to disclose the details behind his departure, citing a confidentiality agreement, Agassi told GigaOm that he didn't "have an issue with the model, I had a problem with the company." He also noted that Better Place's electric vehicles account for about one out of every 200 new cars in Israel, making him optimistic about the concept's future.

Earlier this week, Better Place said it was shuttering its US and Australia operations to focus on Israel and Denmark, which the company considers its "core markets." The company has reportedly racked up well over a half-billion dollars in losses since Agassi founded it in 2007, though it did raise $100 million in December, mostly from its largest shareholder Israel Corp.

Agassi was pushed out as CEO in October and replaced by Better Place's Australia chief Evan Thornley, who himself stepped down in January.
Better Place founder Shai Agassi still believes in swappable-batteries, subscription miles originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 08 Feb 2013 12:02:00 EST.
Better Place, the electric-vehicle battery-swapping technology developer, is swapping out its US and Australia operations to save cash and will focus its efforts on Denmark and Israel.

The company, which had operated offices in California's Silicon Valley, referred to Denmark and Israel as "its two core markets" and says sales there "are gathering momentum." Better Place started deliveries of Renault Fluence Z.E. EVs in Israel last January and said last summer that its vehicles had exceeded one million kilometers (625,000 miles) using battery-swapping stations in Israel and Denmark.

Last month, the company said CEO Evan Thornley had stepped down after just four months on the job. Thornley, who has been succeeded by Dan Cohen, had been head of Better Place's Australia operations before replacing founder Shai Agassi in October. The company reportedly amassed more than $560 million in losses since its 2007 founding.
Founder out, more cash in.

That could be the synopsis for the past month of electric-vehicle battery-swapping network Better Place, which booted its founder and is now working on selling about $100 million in company equity by issuing company stock.

Israel Corp., Better Place's biggest shareholder with about 30 percent of the five-year-old company, will likely contribute about $67 million, Reuters reports, citing public filings from Israel Corp. Better Place is looking to expand its current network of battery-swapping stations in Israel, Denmark and Australia.
Early last month, Better Place replaced founder Shai Agassi with Evan Thornley, who had been CEO of Better Place's Australia division. Better Place, which said in late August that it received a 40-million euro ($50 million US) loan from the European Investment Bank, raised about $750 million since its 2007 founding but has also lost more than $400 million since then.
Better Place looking to raise another $100 million by issuing company stock originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 05 Nov 2012 13:54:00 EST.
Rough starts and local criticism are nothing new in the green car start-up world, and it looks like Better Place is going through another all-too-familiar trope: CEO shake-up.

Better Place's CEO, Shai Agassi, has been "removed" by the company's board of directors in a surprise act. The previous CEO of Better Place Australia, Evan Thornley, has taken over for Agassi. Agassi will remain on the board.

Since starting Better Place, Agassi has been a strong proponent of plug-in vehicles (see examples here, here and here). He hasn't always been right about his predictions, but he's certainly been out there promoting the cause. Trouble is, Better Place hasn't had the success some expected - even though it has deployed plug-in vehicle charging stations and battery swap stations in multiple countries - and so now the official word is that Better Place owes "Shai our gratitude for turning his powerful vision into a reality," but it's time to move on. The Times Of Israel says Shai's reduction of rank is tied to "the company's financial problems, which are rooted in difficulties in selling cars and setting up the necessary infrastructure to support them." The Times says Better Place has lost around $437 million U.S. since it got started five years ago, $128 million of that since in 2012 alone.

Thornley has been CEO of Better Place Australia for four years, and previously worked to develop "EV Engineering Ltd., a collaborative venture between global automotive leaders, to develop and create switchable-battery electric car technology."
Continue reading Better Place shake up: Shai Agassi out as CEO, Evan Thornley steps in

Better Place shake up: Shai Agassi out as CEO, Evan Thornley steps in originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 02 Oct 2012 12:28:00 EST.
Based on the early numbers, Better Place is having a tough time meetings its initial sales target in its primary market of Israel of 4,000 electric vehicles in the first year, but the official word is that the slow start is meeting expectations. How slow? Since selling the first vehicles in July 2012, only 380 Renault Fluence Z.E. EVs had been sold (including cars to employees), with only 80 of those taking place in August.

Better Place customers lease EVs provided by company partner Renault SA, and pay a monthly fee to use its network of charge points and the battery swap stations. Customers benefit from vehicle prices that are $10,000 to $15,000 lower than other EVs, making the Better Place rides very competitive with gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles.

In early August, after many months of marketing trials, Better Place officially launched its sales campaign, "quiet" sales to car fleets, and road tests by company employees. Fleets are the target market, and the rising cost of petroleum is motivating companies to take the Better Place program seriously as they put their 2013 work plans in place, according to Better Place Israel CEO Moshe Kaplan. Kaplan is unconcerned about the slow start, and says it's in line with company expectations. "Companies are now approaching us as they are drawing up their work plans. Some of them want to close deals by October 31. We're talking about some of the largest car fleets," he said.

Kaplan says his company is pleased with the battery replacement station project. So far, 21 stations have been opened, making it possible for EV drivers to move freely from north to south. As for recharging stations, Better Place Israel has installed over 2,000 recharging points in 400 parking lots.
Better Place off to slow start in Israel market, says it's all part of the plan originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 19 Sep 2012 14:02:00 EST.
Computer hackers have moved beyond the U.S. military to cyber attack another enemy: Big Oil.

Recently, hackers hit Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil producer, and disabled 30,000 of its workstations. A group of "hacktivists" calling themselves Cutting Sword of Justice released a statement on an online bulletin board the day the viral attack was released, taking credit for it.

"The disruption was suspected to be the result of a virus that had infected personnel workstations without affecting the primary components of the network," the Saudi Arabia-based company stated in a letter to customers about the cyber attack that was launched August 15. Later in the month, Saudi Aramco announced it had restored full network access, but only after the malware attack, called "Shamoon," reached 75 percent of its workstations.

Cutting Sword of Justice said in its online letter that plan was simply to take out 30,000 computers at Saudi Aramco. Since the oil producer is the main source of income for the Saudi government, the hackers say, it should be blamed for "crimes and atrocities" in several countries. The Cutting Sword of Justice had not been heard of before this cyber attack, and security experts have no information on the group.

They may get away with it. It appears that cutting Sword of Justice didn't do much more than cause headaches at Saudi Aramco, this time, but who knows when a similar tack affects the oil supply.
Hackers bring down Big Oil's computers at Saudi Aramco originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Fri, 31 Aug 2012 19:40:00 EST.
Things just got a little better for Better Place.

The electric-vehicle battery-swapping company said Tuesday that it received a 40-million euro (U.S. $50 million) loan from the European Investment Bank, marking the company's first credit line after raising all of its existing funding in the form of equity.

Better Place will use most of the funds to expand its battery-swapping network throughout Denmark and will use the remaining money to do the same in Israel. Founder Shai Agassi said that the funding will get Better Place a step closer to building out a charging "corridor" between Copenhagen and Paris in which EV drivers will be able to swap batteries all along the 750-mile drive.

Better Place said in January that it had raised about $750 million in funding since being founded in 2007. In February, Bloomberg News reported that Better Place would likely go public within two years in expectations that funding opportunities would increase as EVs become more prevalent.

Earlier this summer, Better Place said its vehicles had been driven over a million kilometers (625,000 miles) through standard recharging and by using battery-swapping stations in Israel and Denmark. At the time, the company, which uses Renault Z.E. EVs for the testing process, was operating about 55 switching stations in Denmark and Israel and had processed about 15,000 battery swaps.
Continue reading Better Place gets $50 million loan from European Investment Bank

Better Place gets $50 million loan from European Investment Bank originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 29 Aug 2012 19:06:00 EST.

The power of social media revealed itself yesterday in the form of fluctuation in fuel prices based on a false tweet.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a Twitter account claiming to be Russian Interior Minister Vladamir Kolokoltsv tweeted that Syrian president Bashar al-Assad had been injured or killed. That tweet which occurred at 9:59 AM EST, was followed by two more tweets alleging the confirmation of al-Assad's death.

In the hour following that tweet, light, sweet crude prices rose from $90.82 to $91.99, and the jump took place in between 10:15 and 10:45. According to the Reuters report, the Russian ministry denies firing off the tweets and denies any connection to the account.

Price Futures Group analyst Phil Flynn pointed out "a well-placed story can move the market, and that looks like what happened." Though Syria itself is not a major oil producer, it is feared that Iran would react to the news because of their connection to and support of Assad

In the wake of sanctions imposed due to their continued participation in a nuclear weapons program, Iran has threatened to close off the Straight of Hormuz, a major throughway for ships carrying crude oil to the rest of the world.

Because of the hypersensitivity of the international tensions in the Middle East, and those trading in oils who follow the area closely, the rumor of Assad's demised spread like wildfire. The combination of Mideast unrest, and the spread of information through texts and tweets means it's unlikely this is the last time something like this will happen.

Rising fuel prices got you down?
A bicycle is a pretty low-impact form of transportation, but what if you could reduce its environmental footprint even further? What if, instead of metal and rubber, it was constructed completely of cardboard? Impossible, you say? Maybe not, we reply. Indeed, we have proof.

Izhar Gafni had heard about a canoe made of cardboard and there was something about the notion that he just couldn't let go of. It eventually came to him that he should try to build something equally as unexpected with the stuff: a bicycle.

The challenge was about as difficult as you can imagine, but the Israeli inventor now has a rolling prototype and the backing to commercialize it. Although it reportedly only requires about $9 of raw material, the finished product might cost somewhere between $60 to $90 when (Okay, if) it finally goes on sale. The plan is for this to happen around the end of 2013.

While we sit and ponder what kind of box it might come in, scroll below for a nicely produced little movie about the man and his improbable project.
Continue reading Behold, a bicycle hewn from cardboard

Behold, a bicycle hewn from cardboard originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 06 Aug 2012 18:01:00 EST.
Better Place waited until its fleet of Renault Fluence plug-in vehicles was just about officially, commercially operational in Israel before letting customers know that the cost to drive the vehicles will be less than expected. Better Place's official launch, which happened this past weekend, means that the cars are now available to both fleets and private individuals. Better Place is also offering consumers a new lower-price plan that is "a simpler and better deal," writes Haaretz, because the previous rate was causing problems for the company to break into the market.

Better Place is using traditional media advertisements to reach out to people - with the slogan, "It's not for everybody" - but it's the simpler plan that is getting the positive reviews. Remember, aside from battery swaps, Better Place's idea is to make EV driving more affordable by "selling miles" (like cell phone minutes). Previously, the lowest-cost plan was for 20,000 kilometers (12,427 miles) per year, and you needed to sign up for four years. The new cheapest plans are month-to-month leases (of a sort) that start at just 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) a month. Even better, those are "roll-over" miles, so you can drive more next month if you don't do as many this month. The cost is 65 agorot per kilometer (around 16 cents per km). Drivers who expect to spend more time in their cars can pay just 55 agorot per kilometer (about 14 cents) but they need to pay some money up front (either enough for 40,000 kilometers over three years or 50,000 kilometers over four years).

Better Place's first customer deliveries happened in January after years of testing and delays, which Better Place blamed mostly on trouble with building permits. BP's marketing and strategy manager, Ori Lahav, told the Jerusalem Post, that "Israeli bureaucracy really slowed us down." Currently, there are 250 cars and 10 battery stations in operation in Israel, and many more should be online soon. We have an in-depth look at Better Place's plans here.
Better Place Israel lowers rates, gives plug-in drivers 'a simpler and better deal' originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 18 Jul 2012 14:05:00 EST.
Those who scoff at the metric system may belittle any publicity related to kilometers covered instead of miles, but we're still pretty impressed.

Better Place, which is trying to build out an infrastructure for electric vehicles based on the cell phone model of leased batteries that are swapped out, says it's vehicles have surpassed one million kilometers (625,000 miles) driven by using battery-swapping stations in Israel and Denmark.

The company, which has an agreement with French automaker Renault to use its Fluence Z.E. EVs for the project, is delivering about five new cars per day to Israeli customers for the purpose of trying out the process. Better Place operates 55 switching stations in Israel and Denmark that have processed about 15,000 battery swaps.

As of late January, Better Place, which was founded in 2007, had raised about $750 million in funding. At that time, Bloomberg reported that the company would likely go public within two years to get more funding in order to expand its battery-swapping infrastructure as more people buy electric vehicles.
Plug-in vehicle drivers are probably less likely to get cited for shredding rubber or doing 80 in a 50 zone and, apparently, insurance companies are taking note.

Drivers of vehicles like the Nissan Leaf battery electric and Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in hybrid pay, on average, lower insurance premiums than their conventional-vehicle counterparts, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Companies like Hartford Insurance have started offering a five percent discount for U.S. electric vehicle drivers, apparently taking into account statistics that show that these drivers tend not to speed or rear-end other folks, the publication reported.

Of course, there are some insurance companies that charge more to insure plug-ins because of their higher price tag, compared to gas-powered vehicles of a similar class. Still, on average, EV drivers appear to be paying less. Specifically, a typical Leaf driver pays about 15 percent less than a driver of a Nissan Maxima, whose base price is about 15 percent less than the Leaf's.

Might want to buy some stock in whatever company you think makes the most fuel-efficient cars.

The price of U.S. gasoline could hit the $6 mark if international sanctions are imposed on Iran and shut down the Strait of Hormuz, through which much of the world's oil is shipped, the Chicago Tribune reports, citing remarks made by IHS chief economist Nariman Behravesh at an event sponsored by the National Automobile Dealers Association and IHS.

Sudan, Syria and Yemen are among countries where there have been oil-supply disruptions, driving up the price of gas to its current levels. And, with 20 percent of the world's oil coming from the Persian Gulf and fears of Iran supply disruption, there's about a 20 percent chance gas prices will approach the $6 a gallon mark, and that could happen by early next year. According to Behravesh, such a jump could cause alt-fuel vehicle sales to spike and, with General Motors unlikely to be able to ramp up production of its Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in vehicle, Nissan Leaf battery-electric sales may surge.

Gas prices are a subject that elicit about as many opinions as presidential prospects. Earlier this month, USA Today quoted Patrick DeHaan, senior analyst for GasBuddy, saying that gas prices may have peaked at about $3.92 a gallon and would drop to $3.70 by the end of the month. U.S. drivers had been hoping that 2011 would've been the worst year for gas prices for a while, as average prices surged about 27 percent to more than $3.50 a gallon and hit the $4 mark last May.

This year, U.S. gas prices have jumped almost 60 cents a gallon to about $3.90 a gallon, according to AAA, and consumers are responding. Last month marked the third-consecutive monthly record when it came to fuel economy figures for new cars, whose gas mileage averaged 24.1 miles per gallon, according to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). As a result, both the Volt and the Toyota Prius hybrid had record monthly U.S. sales.
Gas may hit $6 mark, or maybe pump prices have peaked originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Thu, 26 Apr 2012 20:00:00 EST.
Fisker Automotive may not exactly be chummy with the U.S. federal government these days, but at least it's getting some love from the Middle East.

The California-based extended-range plug-in vehicle maker reached an agreement with Al-Futtaim Group to distribute its cars throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Al-Futtaim sells Lexus, Volvo, Jeep, Toyota and other vehicles throughout the Middle East. The distributor will open a Fisker dealership in Dubai this year.

As for the U.S. government, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which has $193 million in loans out to Fisker, is working with Los Angeles-based investment bank and restructuring expert Houlihan Lokey to keep tabs of Fisker's attempts to raise its own cash, Bloomberg Businessweek reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the situation.

The DOE, in an e-mail to Bloomberg, copped to hiring consultants to tracking companies that have received its loans, but didn't specifically comment on Fisker. The DOE, which slated $529 million in loans for Fisker, froze the credit line after distributing less than $200 million because of production delays related to the Fisker Karma. Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and John Thune (R-SD) are among the members of Congress that have questioned the DOE's decision to grant a loan to Fisker.

Last week, ex-Fisker Chairman Ray Lane went as far as blaming Mitt Romney for the loan-distribution issues, saying that the Republican presidential candidate is using the issue for political gain. Meanwhile, Fisker is still deciding on whether it will use a former General Motors plant in Delaware to build its upcoming Atlantic (formerly Project Nina) sedan.
Continue reading Fisker reaches out to Middle East; DOE reaches for loan consultant

Fisker reaches out to Middle East; DOE reaches for loan consultant originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Wed, 25 Apr 2012 09:52:00 EST.
Talk about hedging your bets.

Abu Dhabi National Energy (TAQA), which is majority owned by the emirate, netted $113 million from selling its seven percent stake in Tesla Motors recently, Arab News reports.

Abu Dhabi, which gets most of its wealth from oil, doubled its investment in the Bay Area-based electric-vehicle maker. TAQA gained the shares in late 2010 when they were transferred from the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority. TAQA said it planned to reinvest the proceeds in Middle East energy-production opportunities.

Tesla shares are up 16 percent so far in 2012 and have jumped 25 percent in the past 12 months. Earlier this year, the company forecast that it would triple its 2011 sales in 2012 and would sell 5,000 Model S sedans. The new car goes on sale this summer. Tesla recently said it was "almost ready" to deliver the Model S, which starts at $57,400 before government incentives.

Abu Dhabi, through its Aabar Investments, is the largest shareholder in Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler AG, according to Arab News.
Tesla stock sale nets Abu Dhabi $113 million originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 10 Apr 2012 10:00:00 EST.
Fed up with the price of gas? We feel your pain. Depending on what state you live in, gas is likely to be found for somewhere between three and four dollars per gallon - and make no mistake, that figure is enough to amount to a sizable chunk of the average American's monthly paycheck.

A new Pentagon report obtained by The Wall Street Journal suggests that American motorists should consider themselves lucky to have such affordable fuel: U.S. military operations stationed in Afghanistan are paying a lot more than that... up to $400 per gallon of fuel delivered to troops on the ground - 100 times what we are asked to shell out. Yikes.

The astronomical cost of fuel is due in part to how it must be delivered: by parachute. Huge military cargo planes operated by the Air Force fly to a remote drop zone and send dozens of pallets to the ground, containing items like food, water and, of course, fuel.

There's more bad news. Due to the dangers of setting up ground-based supply convoys, the military fully expects that air-drops will be increasingly necessary in the coming months and years. And that means our military's fuel bill is only going to get more and more expensive.

Check out a couple of video reports explaining the issue after the break.
Continue reading Pentagon report says U.S. pays $400/gal for gas in Afghanistan [w/video]

Pentagon report says U.S. pays $400/gal for gas in Afghanistan [w/video] originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Tue, 06 Dec 2011 13:56:00 EST.
Annual worldwide sales of natural gas vehicles will jump 68 percent to 3.2 million vehicles in 2016 from 1.9 million in 2010, according to Pike Research. The surge, says Pike, will be driven mainly by fleets looking to cut petroleum dependency and reduce operating costs.

In the U.S., annual natural gas vehicle sales will almost quadruple to 33,000 vehicles in 2016, up from an estimated 8,400 in 2012. Among individual countries, India will overtake Iran as the world's leading user of natural gas vehicles by 2016. Oil-rich Iran will apparently turn more and more to natural gas as a fuel because using petroleum means that the nation would turn less profit from selling the crude to foreign countries.

Even if the U.S.' use of natural gas does quadruple, it will continue to account for a near-meaningless percentage of worldwide natural gas vehicles. This, says Pike, is due to a lack of infrastructure. As of September 1, there were an estimated 946 operational natural gas fueling stations in the U.S., compared to 3,200 public-access electric vehicle charge points and nearly 125,000 gas stations. Lack of infrastructure aside, the fact that only one production passenger vehicle sold in the U.S. is capable of burning natural gas - the 2012 Honda Civic Natural Gas - is quite a bottleneck.
Continue reading Pike Research predicts 68% jump in global CNG vehicle sales by 2016

Pike Research predicts 68% jump in global CNG vehicle sales by 2016 originally appeared on AutoblogGreen on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 11:46:00 EST.
Ask any addict why they don't quit, and they'll probably tell you it comes down to one sticking point. The addiction could be to caffeine or cocaine, but whatever the excuse - from work stress and social factors to depression or a general lack of willpower - addicts always have something to blame for their continued use.

The same could be argued for oil addiction. Because when it comes down to it, there really is only one sticking point that prevents a world dependent on petroleum from switching to electric vehicles. It's not about availability, because as any economics student (or drug dealer) will tell you, supply always catches up to demand. It's not about the source of the electricity, or the production and disposal of batteries. More than any other reason, oil addicts blame range anxiety.

For drivers used to getting into their cars and hitting the open road, range is a commodity we're just not willing to give up. While battery technology is constantly improving, it's still a long way from matching the range you can get on a full tank of gas and an endless chain of pump stations. But there's one company that says they've found the solution... or at least a stop-gap. One that could get the world's drivers off of gasoline and on the road to electric propulsion. We headed out to Tel Aviv to see what they were up to. (Continue reading...)
