<br />
For 10 years, diesels lovers have had a reason to celebrate their engines a little bit more than before: filters that reduce pollution. Called Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), the devices were first introduced by Peugeot at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Motor-Show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a> back in 1999. The lucky vehicle was a Peugeot 607. As you might know, DPFs come in two versions. Some of them, like the ones used by PSA, need a special additive, called Eolys. Others, like the ones used at Toyota, store the pollutants in a chamber and burns them when necessary. Peugeot has sold 2.1 million cars with PDFs, 233,000 of them in Germany.<br />

<br />
Last summer, French automaker PSA and Mitsubishi announced that the two companies would partner on electric vehicle development for the European market. Prior to the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Frankfurt-Motor-Show/">Frankfurt Motor Show</a>, Peugeot announced that it would market a version of the Mitsubishi iMiEV <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/07/peugeot-announces-that-its-imiev-will-be-called-the-ion/">as the iOn</a> and now sister brand Citro&euml;n has announced <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/04/citroen-gets-mitsubishi-i-miev-variant-euro-sales-begin-2010/">its own version</a> of the car. Following its usual naming convention and the emissions free nature of the car, the Citro&euml;n is badged as the C-Zero. <br />
<br />
The C-Zero will become the second battery-powered vehicle in the Citro&euml;n lineup in the fourth quarter of 2010 along with the Berlingo van. The C-Zero will be eligible for a &euro;5,000 tax break in France. Like the iMiEV, the C-Zero takes 6 hours to charge its battery from a 220V European outlet. A special 400V / 125A charger can provide 80 percent replenishment in 30 minutes. Citro&euml;n is quoting a range of 80 miles on a full charge. <br />

Since Pininfarina is going through some rough times,the French press is speculating about what Bollor&eacute; is going to do about <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/09/26/bluecar-confirmed-to-be-on-sale-next-year/">manufacturing the BlueCar</a>. According to <a href="http://www.ouest-france.fr/">Ouest-France</a>, Bollor&eacute; could be negotiating with a French manufacturer to build the car or play a role in part of the car's production. The manufacturer could be PSA, a company that has a manufacturing facility in Rennes, very close where Bollor&eacute;'s batteries are manufactured (in Ergu&eacute;-Gaberic, France). PSA CEO Philippe Varin didn't confirm what will happen, although most local politicians are happily speculating about this possibility. Currently, the PSA Rennes facility is running at very low capacity, and assembling this car would seriously boost their production. <br />

<br />
BMW and PSA share a couple powertrains: The diesel Minis have the 1.6 HDi developed by PSA, while the 1.4- and 1.6-liter gasoline engines were co-developed with BMW. However, BMW chief exec Norbert Reithofer has confirmed in the <em>Financial Times</em> that the two European automakers could begin sharing not just powertrains, but platforms as well - specifically with Mini. From here, we can speculate that the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">DS3</a> could form the underpinnings of a forthcoming Mini SUV? Perhaps a new Peugeot 207 John Cooper Works? Whatever happens, it won't be <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/07/24/report-smart-partnering-with-renault-on-next-gen-forfour/">a new German-French auto alliance</a>.<br />

<br />PSA, the parent company of Peugeot and Citro&euml;n, this morning <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssAutoTruckManufacturers/idUSBNG46185420090709">denied a report</a> that came out in the Japanese Nikkei business newspaper about a new tie-up with Mitsubishi. The paper had reported that PSA and Mitsubishi would be collaborating on plug-in hybrid vehicles. The two automakers are working together on battery EVs with Mitsubishi supplying a version of its iMiEV to the French company, along with lithium ion batteries for other applications. <br /><br />However, PSA says that it is developing its own plug-in hybrid technology. This is likely to be based on its <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/paris-2008-peugeot-citroen-hymotion4-hybrid-drive-system/">Hybrid4 through the road hybrid system</a> that debuted last fall at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. This system uses a conventional gas or diesel powertrain driving one axle with an electric motor driving the other. It is mechanically simpler than a power split hybrid and easier to implement. Mitsubishi is also working on its own plug-in hybrid system targeted for a 2013 release. <br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/">i MiEV</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/27-i-miev-exterior_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/01-i-miev-exterior_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/21-i-miev-exterior_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/45-i-miev-action_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/i-miev/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/04/40-i-miev-interior_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssAutoTruckManufacturers/idUSBNG46185420090709">Reuters</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/07/09/report-psa-says-its-not-working-with-mitsubishi-on-plug-in-hyb/">REPORT: PSA says it's not working with Mitsubishi on plug-in hybrids</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Thu, 09 Jul 2009 08:02:00 EST. The alt-fuel vehicles were introduced to Jean-Louis Borloo, the French Environmental Minister and are the results of a &euro;57 million investment from ADEME (The French Agency for Environmental and Wise Usage of Energy - quite a name, no?). <br /><br />Renault participated with three new items: the Velroue, a hybrid city car; a system to improve EV range called Vega/Thop; and a plug-in rechargeable 12-ton freight truck. PSA brought two projects, a hybrid car that favors electricity over the ICE and a new hybrid system. Valeo, Heuliez, EDF, Total and several Universities also had technologies to showcase. Borloo announced that French institutions will purchase up to 100,000 EVs in the coming years, once the recharging station infrastructure is set up.

While the plant produces four different types of transmissions, the expansion is focused on the two newest designs for the mechanical compact gearbox. This transmission is available in two varieties, one fully manual and the second and automated unit that activates the clutch and gear changes robotically. <br /><br />The new gearboxes are 6-speed units and the automated version is known as the MCP. Both of the units can help reduce fuel consumption by up to five percent. The expansion will add 75,000 square feet to the 452,000 square foot facility. This will allow Peugeot to up production of the fuel saving transmissions from the current 1,750 units to 2,625 units daily. <br /><br />[Source: Peugeot]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/20/psa-expands-production-of-transmissions-for-better-fuel-efficien/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>PSA expands production of transmissions for better fuel efficiency</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/06/20/psa-expands-production-of-transmissions-for-better-fuel-efficien/">PSA expands production of transmissions for better fuel efficiency</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Sat, 20 Jun 2009 16:38:00 EST. <br />Imagine combining the highway mileage and torque that diesel engines get with the benefits of a hybrid in city traffic. This is a dream combination, and PSA is one automaker that is closes to blending these two technologies (see the HyBrid4 at Peugeot, for instance). Recently, The <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/in_the_showroom/article6205646.ece">Times</a> had the chance to test the prototype <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/tag/citroen-hypnos/">Citro&euml;n Hypnos</a>. Their take, it's an interesting blend in a true prototype vehicle.<br /><br />First, the technical sheet: the Hypnos uses a 2-liter diesel to generate 200hp and gets an additional 50hp from an electric motor powering the rear wheels. The concept gets 62.7 mpg (Imperial, 52 mpg U.S. or 4.5l/100km) and produces CO2 emissions under 120g/km. Those are compact car numbers but the Hypnos is no small ride. The drivers enjoyed the Prius- or RX400h-like noise and pollution free segments of city driving as well as the torquey response from the diesel engine once the ICE was ignited. On the other hand, since diesels are noisier than petrol engines, the contrast between the electric and the ICE modes was more pronounced.<br /><br />This powertrain will likelyfind its way to the market: it will be first installed in the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/peugeot-3008-crossover-to-get-hybrid4-technology-in-2011/">Peugeot 3008</a> crossover and the recently launched upscale <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">Citro&euml;n DS series</a> in 2011. Smaller versions of this powertrain are also in the works and will surely make it in the brand's workhorses, the Citro&euml;n C3 and C4 and the Peugeot 308 and 407.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/">Paris 2008: Citroen Hypnos</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08126033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08133001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08130012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/in_the_showroom/article6205646.ece">Times online</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/citroen-hypnos-test-drive-diesel-hybrid-concept-cars-got-a-lot/">Citroën Hypnos test drive: diesel hybrid concept car's got a lot to love</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 08 May 2009 09:46:00 EST. Peugeot's emphasis on smaller cars with highly efficient diesel engines has helped it capture 18.6 percent of sales in the sub-120 category in the UK and 15.5 percent of such sales Europe-wide. In the sub 130 category it has 14.3 percent of UK sales and 13.7 percent of European sales. <br /><br />Toyota only breaks into the top five in the UK sub-120 group thanks to sales in that country of the Prius. In the rest of Europe, Ford, Citroen, Renault and Fiat round out the top five brands. The top selling single model in the class in the UK is the Peugeot 107 which had been rated at 111 g/km but was recently upgraded and is now rated 106 g/km. <br /><br />[Source: Peugeot]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/peugeot-is-top-uk-and-european-purveyor-of-low-co-sub-2-sub-ca/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Peugeot is top UK and European purveyor of low CO2 cars</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/30/peugeot-is-top-uk-and-european-purveyor-of-low-co-sub-2-sub-ca/">Peugeot is top UK and European purveyor of low CO2 cars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Mon, 30 Mar 2009 08:40:00 EST. However, the latest technologies in safety and the array of power accessories we all have in our cars all add weight to our cars, hurting fuel economy while they make driving more comfortable and save lives. Of course, technology has helped us recover some fuel economy, but nothing beats a low scale presence to help make your car a fuel sipper. When you click after the jump, we'll show you a list of Europe's 15 lightest cars. They're all under the 1 ton (metric) mark and, except for two remarkable exceptions (one is shown above), they all deliver top-notch fuel economy, low emissions and they're usually easy to park. <br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.auto-news.de/auto/fotoshows/anzeige_Wenig-Kilos,-wenig-Umweltschaeden-Die-leichtesten-Autos-auf-dem-Markt_id_23985">Auto News</a>]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/europes-top-15-lightest-cars/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Europe's 15 lightest cars</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/25/europes-top-15-lightest-cars/">Europe's 15 lightest cars</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Wed, 25 Mar 2009 09:35:00 EST. However, some of the same properties that give such tires less resistance to rolling down the road also mean they sometimes also have less grip on the road, resulting in degraded handling and braking. Tire makers have been working diligently to improve the performance characteristics of such tires and Michelin created its Energy Saver tire. These tires are exclusively supplied to Peugeot and Citroen and debuted in 2007 on the 308. Michelin has now delivered 1 million of those tires to PSA.<br /><br />The tires reduce fuel consumption by 0.2L/100 km and carbon dioxide emissions by 4 g/km. The vehicles that are currently running these new Michelin tires are saving approximately 15,000 metric tonnes of CO2 per year. <br /><br />[Source: Peugeot]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/16/michelin-energy-saver-tires-help-peugeot-citroen-save-15-000-ton/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Michelin Energy Saver tires help Peugeot/Citroen save 15,000 tonnes of CO2 annually</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/03/16/michelin-energy-saver-tires-help-peugeot-citroen-save-15-000-ton/">Michelin Energy Saver tires help Peugeot/Citroen save 15,000 tonnes of CO2 annually</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Mon, 16 Mar 2009 08:50:00 EST. For those who don't know, more than 50 years ago Citro&euml;n sparked a revolution with the DS (pronounced like "de&eacute;sse" in French, which means goddess) and its hydraulic suspension, transmission and braking. When Citro&euml;n announced a revival of the DS, some classic car lovers thought that the new DS might be a neo-retro model. We were wrong. Instead, Citro&euml;n has announcing a new line of premium vehicles, the DS series, that will compete against German counterparts. <br /><br />The idea behind the DS badge is not to consume more, but consume better. Citro&euml;n states that they were inspired by Nespresso by adopting a specific product and branding based on market studies. So, side by side with regular models such as the C3 or <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/04/11/citroen-preparing-new-c4-with-plenty-of-green-features/">C4</a>, buyers will be able to find upscale versions called DS 3 or DS 4. The first model, the DS 3 (pictured above) will be based on the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/09/citroen-to-launch-new-micro-hybrid-technology-on-diesel-c3-picas/">C3 Picasso platform</a>, but offers an "innovative solution for urban driving." Citro&euml;n also promises CO2 emissions for the DS 3 will range from 90 to 150 g/km. The DS 3 will have a Stop &amp; Start system as a standard feature. For future models, such as the DS 4 or the DS 5, Citro&euml;n could include the same hybrid powerplant that PSA is readying for the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/peugeot-3008-crossover-to-get-hybrid4-technology-in-2011/">Peugeot 3008</a>. <span style="font-style: italic;">There's a couple of videos of the classic DS after the jump</span><br /><br /> [Source: <a href="http://www.lefigaro.fr/automobile/2009/02/05/03001-20090205ARTWWW00585-avec-la-ds-citroen-lance-une-deuxieme-ligne-de-modeles.php">Le Figaro</a>]<br /><br /><br /><br /><span class="leg"></span><p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Citroen announces new line of premium DS cars, which might include hybrid</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/06/citroen-announces-new-line-of-premium-ds-cars-which-might-inclu/">Citroen announces new line of premium DS cars, which might include hybrid</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 06 Feb 2009 11:22:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Peugeot-Citroen HYmotion4 hybrid drive architecture</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />In yet another sign of the troubled economic times we live in, PSA is indicating that the introduction of <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/18/peugeot-3008-crossover-to-get-hybrid4-technology-in-2011/">a plug-in hybrid version of its new 3008 crossover</a> will likely be delayed at least a year or two. Just as every other automaker is doing, the parent of Peugeot and Citroen (PSA) is cutting spending in order to try and keep costs in line with plummeting revenues. The plans for a 2011 launch of the HYbrid4 diesel hybrid are currently still on track, although Peugeot estimates sales of that version will likely be in only the tens of thousands annually rather than millions. The HYbrid4 is a <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/paris-2008-peugeot-citroen-hymotion4-hybrid-drive-system/">through-the-road system</a> with an electric motor driving the rear wheels and the conventional diesel powertrain moving the front wheels. Ladimir Prince, manager of PSA's hybrid innovations unit, told Automotive News Europe that research on PHEVs is ongoing, but battery costs remain a major obstacle. At this time, PSA has not even said when it might launch a plug-in hybrid.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/">2010 Peugeot 3008</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/3008_0812ps002-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/3008_0812ps007-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/3008_0812ps006-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/3008_0812ps001-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/2010-peugeot-3008/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2009/01/3008_0812ps034-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/">Peugeot Prologue HYmotion4</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--01-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--02-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--03-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--04-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--05-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/article/20090204/ANE02/902049984/1130">Automotive News</a> - sub req'd]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/02/05/peugeot-likely-to-delay-plug-in-hybrid-program-to-save-money/">Peugeot likely to delay plug-in hybrid program to save money</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Thu, 05 Feb 2009 09:41:00 EST. Since Spain is one of the countries that insists it will put <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/07/31/hands-on-spain-to-promote-31-measures-to-save-energy-and-makes/">a million EV and/or plug-in hybrids on roads by 2014</a> and is also Europe's 5th largest market, automakers are already introducing plug-in projects - projects that might be able to get &euro;800 million from Spanish taxpayers for their development. <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/08/05/renault-nissan-massive-ev-project-also-coming-to-spain/">Renault</a> and <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/seat-introduces-leon-twin-drive-ecomotive-hybrid-concept/">Seat</a> each have one, but PSA, which is always announcing what should be the first diesel hybrid, has announced an investment of &euro;250 million in its Vigo factory to manufacture hybrid components. There is no word yet about a <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/09/24/peugeot-offers-308-hybrid-hdi-to-french-minister-of-environmenta/">hybrid HDI</a>, but we know PSA is installing Stop&amp;Start systems across its complete range starting in 2010. <br /><br />[Source: EP via <a href="http://www.ecoticias.com/20090122-la-decision-final-sobre-la-fabricacion-de-coches-hibridos-electricos-en-galicia-dependera-del-grupo-psa.html">Econoticias</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/23/psa-considering-manufacturing-a-hybrid-for-spain/">PSA considering manufacturing a hybrid for Spain</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 23 Jan 2009 15:01:00 EST. What's new is a report in the <a href="http://www.nni.nikkei.co.jp/AC/TNKS/Nni20090107D07JFF05.htm">Nikkei</a> (subs req'd) about Mitsubishi supplying the all-electric MiEV to PSA an OEM agreement to be sold under the PSA brands Peugeot and Citro&euml;n. This is an agreement that benefits both partners, since Mitsubishi isn't that much of a powerful brand in Continental Europe and PSA will now have a readily-developed electric vehicle to have at showrooms. PSA could sell about 10,000 MiEVs in 2011, which would double Mistubishi's expected production figures. Most European countries are currently offering, or have announced, significant tax breaks and direct subsides to purchase electric cars. PSA had already developed a few EV models and you could actually buy a converted Peugeot 106 electric, some of which are used for <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2007/07/25/do-you-want-to-try-an-electric-car-while-on-vacation-go-to-la-r/">car sharing in La Rochelle</a>, France.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/">Mitsubishi i MiEV - Press Kit</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/03/imiev_presskit_hi_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/03/imiev_presskit_hi_02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/03/imiev_presskit_hi_03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/03/imiev_presskit_hi_04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/mitsubishi-i-miev-press-kit/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/03/imiev_presskit_hi_05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.nni.nikkei.co.jp/AC/TNKS/Nni20090107D07JFF05.htm">Nikkei</a> (subs req'd) via <a href="http://www.greencarcongress.com/2009/01/report-mitsubis.html">Green Car Congress</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2009/01/08/mitsubishi-to-supply-the-miev-to-be-sold-as-citroen-and-peugeot/">Mitsubishi to supply iMiEV to PSA, to be sold as Citroën and Peugeot</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 11:11:00 EST. <div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em><small>Click above for high-res gallery of the </small></em></strong><strong><em><small>Peugeot Prologue HYmotion4</small></em></strong></div>
<br />Diesel hybrids from Peugeot and/or Citro&euml;n may soon appear on more than the show floor of the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/Paris-Motor-Show/">Paris Motor Show</a>. Parent company PSA announced this week that it has partnered with Robert Bosch GmbH to develop diesel hybrid technology with an eye toward production models. PSA's HYmotion4 four-wheel-drive diesel hybrid powertrain was shown in Paris in the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/04/paris-2008-peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-diesel-hybrid/">Peugeot Prologue</a> and <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-citroens-hypnos-brings-the-rainbow-into-your-car/">Citro&euml;n Hypnos</a> concept cars in October. At the time, Citro&euml;n called the HYmotion4 technology "feasible from an industrial standpoint," and the carmaker now says it will bring the diesel hybrid technology to market in Peugeot and Citro&euml;n vehicles starting in 2011. Should the Prologue make it to production, the claimed combined mileage of 52.3 mpg (US) and CO2 emissions of just 109 g/km would certainly be welcomed. The big question with a diesel hybrid setup, though, is cost. <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/04/23/vw-golf-tdi-hybrid-probably-dead-in-the-water/">Just ask VW</a>.<span style="font-style: italic;"> Thanks to Throwback for the tip!</span><br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/">Peugeot Prologue HYmotion4</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--01-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--02-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--03-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--04-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/peugeot-prologue--05-1280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/">Paris 2008: Citroen Hypnos</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08126033_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08133001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08131005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/paris-2008-citroen-hypnos/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/10/a08130012_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=137489">Inside Line</a>, Bosch]<br /><br /><p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/12/10/diesel-hybrid-technology-will-be-in-peugeot-and-citroen-showroom/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Diesel hybrid technology will be in Peugeot and Citroën showrooms in 2011</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/12/10/diesel-hybrid-technology-will-be-in-peugeot-and-citroen-showroom/">Diesel hybrid technology will be in Peugeot and Citroën showrooms in 2011</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Wed, 10 Dec 2008 16:02:00 EST. Each OEM's respective marketing department created a set of evocative names for these models, like <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/07/15/citroen-gets-official-with-its-airdream-label/">Citro&euml;n's Airdream</a>. Now, Citro&euml;n has taken the good idea a step further: mating the green label to its fleet cars. This makes cars with reduced CO2 emissions and lower fuel consumption available to fleet users, and it also makes sense from an economic point of view, since lower fuel consumption also means lower running costs and road taxs. The Airdream Business label will not only include the most efficient powertrains available (1.6-liter HDIs) for each model (C4, C4 Picasso and C5) but the business part adds the highest possible optional equipment: Citro&euml;n's signature satellite navigation system (called MyWay), rear-park assisting, bluetooth connectivity, and so on. The only options are lightweight rims and metallic paint.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/">New Look Citroen C4</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-h-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-g-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-f-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-e-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-d-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: Citro&euml;n via <a href="http://www.leblogauto.com/2008/11/citroen-lance-la-gamme-airdream-business.html">Le Blog Auto</a>]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/11/26/citroen-launches-airdream-business-label/">Citroën launches Airdream Business label</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Wed, 26 Nov 2008 09:37:00 EST. At this weekend's <a href="http://www.h2roma.org/">H2Roma</a>, the PSA group will talk about the green vehicles it hopes to bring to market in the future. H2Roma is an annual sustainable mobility and the PSA group's press release announcing its participation (pasted in full after the jump) gives us a compact rundown on how the companies will make future cars even cleaner. Check out the list:<br /><br />
<ul style="font-style: italic;">
    <li>Continued improvement of gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engines</li>
    <li>Second generation micro-hybrid technology on all cars by 2010</li>
    <li>Full diesel hybrid technology in 2011</li>
    <li>Preparation for the future Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV)</li>
</ul>
<br />They just get better as you move down the list, don't they? Lots of potential problems to actually achieving these goals, but the diesel hybrid goal is the one I'm most excited about for my new car. Too bad we probably won't see diesel hybrids in the U.S. anytime soon.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/">Peugeot 308</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/06/53200-a-peu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2007/06/53200peu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/02/53797peu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/02/53905peu_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/peugeot-308-1/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/02/peugeot308_1280_01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/">New Look Citroen C4</a></strong></p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-h-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-g-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-f-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-e-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/photos/new-look-citroen-c4/low/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autobloggreen.com/media/2008/09/56040-d-cit_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br />[Source: PSA Peugeot Citroen]<p><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/11/14/h2roma-psa-lays-out-green-car-future-strategy/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>H2Roma: PSA lays out green car future strategy</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/11/14/h2roma-psa-lays-out-green-car-future-strategy/">H2Roma: PSA lays out green car future strategy</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 13:38:00 EST. PSA has decided that it's time to follow Renault's cheap-is-good path and is now searching for a location in Poland and Turkey to make a new model. The new car would be sold under the Citro&euml;n and/or Peugeot brands in emerging markets, starting in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Turkey and North Africa. Should the model be successful, it's could be produced in China as well. The car could sport the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/04/25/psa-looking-to-offer-new-three-cylinder-low-co-sub-2-sub-engin/">new-generation 3-cylinder 1.0 liter</a> engine with the latest technology in emissions reduction and power.<br /><br />[Source: <a href="http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081013/ANE03/810129877/1179/ANE">Automotive News</a> (subs. req'd)]<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/14/psa-to-copy-renault-new-low-cost-model-in-the-works/">PSA to copy Renault: new low-cost model in the works</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://green.autoblog.com">Autoblog Green</a> on Tue, 14 Oct 2008 08:01:00 EST. <div align="center"><em><strong><small>Peugeot-Citroen HYmotion4 hybrid drive architecture</small></strong></em><br /></div>
<br />Traditionally, automakers use the biggest auto shows in their home countries as a platform to display their latest and greatest ideas, both aesthetic and technological. Such was clearly the case this week at the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/category/paris-motor-show/">Paris Motor Show</a> for PSA, the parent company of Peugeot and Citro&euml;n. One of the technical highlights on the stands of both PSA brands was something called HYmotion4, a new through-the-road hybrid system. HYmotion4 was featured on four different vehicles including the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/03/paris-2008-peugeot-rc-hymotion4/">Peugeot RC</a> and <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/04/paris-2008-peugeot-prologue-hymotion4-diesel-hybrid/">Prologue</a> and the <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-citroens-hypnos-brings-the-rainbow-into-your-car/">Citro&euml;n Hypnos</a> and <a href="http://green.autoblog.com/2008/10/02/paris-2008-citroen-c4-wrc-hymotion4-hybrid-rally-car/">C4 WRC</a>. <br /><br />The idea of a through-the-road hybrid system is not new and has been used previously by a number of manufacturers. To date however, no mainstream manufacturer has produced such a hybrid configuration. In engineering a car, there are many ways to skin a cat, and judging by the number of examples that PSA showed in Paris, it seems that Peugeot and Citro&euml;n may follow this path for production as an alternative to the hybrids being produced by the likes of Toyota, Ford, GM and others.
