Breaking into the Top Ten with 92 votes (3.5% of the total), the Audi A3 TDI is an appealing 40-50 mpg choice and will be available in the U.S. later this year. Diesel prices notwithstanding, this is a great way to kick off the list (click on the image above to continue). -
Chinese automakers made it to the main floor in Detroit for the first time this year, and BYD's F3DM plug-in hybrid made the most of its topside appearance, earning 98 votes (3.7% of the total) in our poll. Americans will have to wait until 2011 to buy one of these for themselves, but the demand is starting to build now. -
This incredibly preliminary model of a battery-powered Ford snagged 124 votes (4.7%) and suggests that Ford is onto something. We're not saying they should stop the PHEV testing, but BEV options are going to be lauded, and the Ford Focus EV should be a solid choice for a daily driver, should it ever see showrooms. -
Fisker's PHEV concept vehicle from last year, the Karma, made it to Detroit in production form and snagged 155 votes (5.9%). If year-old news manages to get that man votes, then you can bet that the newer Karma S was also a hit. Keep reading to find out where the new convertible ended up. -
Chrysler's big all-electric surprise, the 200C EV was the top choice for 195 ABG voters (7.4%). We like the look of this concept, and the 40-mile battery range makes the design even more appealing. Is it the Volt-killer? Not by a long shot (not yet, anyway), but we like that everyone wants to take aim. -
After four plug-ins, the list's second diesel appears in spot #6 with 206 votes (7.8%). The VW Concept BlueSport not only looks great, but you can't really complain about a 180 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque (providing a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds) in a car that also gets about 35 mpg on the European cycle. Especially when that can be pushed to 60+ mpg in "Eco" mode. -
OK, back to the plug for #4. The Fisker Karma S won 240 votes (9.1%) and gives Fisker the only brand that can claim two vehicles in your Top Ten. The powertrain in the Karma S hardtop is the same as in the original Karma, and the look of the two cars is pretty similar, as well. If all the votes for these two vehicles were added together, Fisker would just move to third place. Which cars can beat that? -
The trusty Toyota Prius - in its 2010 garb - bows in at #3, showing that even if you don't update the look of your car, you can still garner 295 votes (11.2%). We applaud Toyota for squeezing a few more mpg out of this now-standard hybrid to break the 50 mpg limit. Excellent for a production car, but not good enough to take top honors. -
Coming back from the dead in a big way, the new Honda Insight jumps to #2 in our reader poll with 424 votes (16.0%). This is much better than the #10 position the new Insight won in our editorial poll, and goes to show and a practical hybrid that you'll be able to buy soon just can't be beat. Well, no, that's not right. It can, and the car to do it is ... -
The Cadillac Converj kept its lead through the end of polling Friday to take top honors in the AutoblogGreen reader poll for best vehicle, concept or production. Netting an impressive 482 votes (18.2%), the Converj looks great in concept form. Once it gets real side mirrors and all the other changes that a production version will need, we'll see if you're all still as excited about the Converj when (if) it comes to sales floors.
