Longest-running diesel VW in America has over 562,000 miles on the odometer

How many miles can you put on a car in 21 years? Syl Schmid, from Blue Rock, Ohio, has managed to pile more than 562,000 miles on his 1986 Jetta Turbo Diesel, a feat the Volkswagen has certified as the most on a running VW in America today. Two things to mention here at the top: one, the numbers mean that Schmid drove an average of 26,762 miles a year and, two, thanks to records Schmid kept, VW says he regularly got over 50 mpg during the course of his two decades with the car.
