Antonov working on two-speed ancillaries
British auto supplier Antonov is currently working on two-speed engine ancillaries, including underhood items like alternators, air conditioning compressors and water pumps. At low engine speeds, the alternator or ancillary package could have a gear ratio that allows the unit to spin at a different speed than when the engine is running at higher RPMs. This would have a desirable effect on fuel efficiency and could even improve the charging of the vehicle's battery, which would be a boon for regenerative braking capacity.
