Gas isn't expensive enough for British motorists to leave their cars

It seems that oil prices are going down these days but gas prices are still high at the pump. But what's the maximum price we want to pay at the pump before we look for alternatives (i. e. public transport)? In the case of Britain, insurance company Esure found that this price was £1.75 per liter.
