STUDY: Market share for plug ins, hybrids set for huge growth by 2013
Reports that hybrid vehicles would continue to be popular are nothing new and seem to be coming true. But a new study by NextGen Research paints a picture that might be a bit too rosy. Maybe. Components used in electric and hybrid vehicles will see a huge growth spurt in the coming years, NextGen found. Vehicle battery modules, for example, are expected to go from about $1.3 billion last year to $3.7 billion by 2014. For comparison, read these recent posts discussing these sorts of components with David Cole (difficult but positive) and ... Read more →

Looking up? Hybrid market share up in May 6 months ago on Autoblog Green
The fact that auto sales are down from the levels recorded a year ago is no surprise. In fact, it's a bit of a broken record. Note that on Autoblog's monthly By the Numbers post, there's not a hint of green to be seen anywhere, indicating that sales numbers were down across the board for all ...

Apparently, all those flowers and talk of "harmony" in the first new Prius ad are working. According to the Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Toyota has received 75,000 orders or the 2010 Prius. Toyota is not confirming the number, which was mentioned in Automotive News (subs req'd). The Prius goes on ...
GM and Ford hybrids have a good sales month in April 7 months ago on Autoblog Green
April 2009 proved to be yet another ugly month for U.S. vehicle sales pretty much across the board with virtually every brand showing significant declines and the seasonally adjusted annual sales rate barely hitting 9 million units. However, there were a few bright spots amongst all the gloom. ...
Honda sells 2,096 Insight hybrids in April, Prius sales drop 61.5% 7 months ago on Autoblog Green
April U.S. auto sales numbers came out today, and Honda reports it sold 2,096 Honda Insights. That's a far cry from the 5,000 Insights that the company sold in Japan in the car's first week. Guess the pent-up demand for the Prius-alternative was stronger back home than here in the U.S. Or maybe ...
Love your hybrid? Apparently not that much 8 months ago on Autoblog Green
When we tested out the 2010 Prius last month, Toyota reps told us that they expect 20-25 percent of the new third-gen Prius sales will be from repeat buyers. This is higher than the industry average for hybrids, according to a new study put out by R.L. Polk. Maybe Prius drivers love their ...
2009: Year of the hybrid sales boom bust? 8 months ago on Autoblog Green
Three things to note: The new Honda Insight went on sale in Japan earlier this year and has been selling well. Toyota has sold a million hybrids in the U.S. Ford has built 100,00 hybrid SUVs. Sounds good, right? Not so fast. The truth is that, overall, hybrids are not selling well. ...
Toyota to Ford: 100,000 hybrids? That's cute. We've sold a million in the U.S. 8 months ago on Autoblog Green
Yesterday, Ford announced it had built its 100,000th hybrid SUV. Today, Toyota coyly released a statement that outshines the Blue Oval 10-to-1. Toyota Motor Sales has now sold more than one million Toyota and Lexus hybrids in the U.S. and dominates 75 percent of the hybrid market here. TMS has ...
Used hybrid values have "fallen off a cliff" 9 months ago on Autoblog Green
As we're sure you've noticed every time you've gone to refill your gas tank in the last few months, gas is once again relatively cheap. Just under a year ago, the price for a gallon of fuel was about double what it is today in most parts of the country, and those high costs were driving the sales ...
Hybrids account for 2.3% of January auto sales 9 months ago on Autoblog Green
Although the global and U.S. automotive markets are suffering a huge setback in sales, it's not impossible for automakers to find a few positive trends to hang their hats on, and one of them centers around hybrids. On the surface, it seems that now may not the best time to be charging extra for ...
2008 Hybrid sales follow every other segment, down 9.9% in 2008 10 months ago on Autoblog Green
As gas prices rose steadily through the first eight months of 2008, hybrid-powered vehicles disappeared from dealer lots pretty much as fast most manufacturers could build and deliver them. However, once Labor Day hit, Toyota, Nissan and Ford hybrids were no more immune than any other vehicle type ...
Toyota, Honda hybrid sales drop in 2008; 5 FCX Clarity models sold 11 months ago on Autoblog Green
We've already taken a look at the 2,555 hybrids that GM sold in December and the 14,439 hybrid vehicles it sold in 2008, but what about the other major automakers? Not every automaker reports their sales the same way (most don't break out hybrid numbers, for example), but we can still compare ...
GM sold 2,555 hybrids in December, HUMMER sales cut in half 11 months ago on Autoblog Green
All things considered, it appears that we think of GM's 2,555 hybrid sales in December a success. GM's press release (posted after the jump) certainly makes it all smell like roses. The 2.5k deliveries are up from the 1,957 hybrids the General sold in September. At that time, GM was averaging about ...

If you happen to be a map nerd, this will surely interest you: a US map that shows how hybrid sales cars are doing. The only problem is that the map only shows absolute values, but the page also shows the ratios for the 15 states with the most hybrids per capita. It's no surprise that the number of ...
Credit crunch kills the momentum of GM hybrids 1 year ago on Autoblog Green

Camry hybrid selling at record pace 1 year ago on Autoblog Green
Toyota's Camry Hybrid is selling like crazy these days. Last year, Toyota managed to sell 54,477 Camry Hybrids, an impressive figure no doubt, and sales are showing no signs of slowing down. For example, in the month of March, Toyota set a new record for the hybrid version of the Camry by selling ...
August 2007 hybrid sales show Prius still hotcake-like, but overall the diner is emptying out 2 years ago on Autoblog Green
Hybridcars.com's monthly wrap-up of hybrid sales is out for August and nothing much has changed. Toyota sold a lot of Priuses (14,000+ units, up 26 percent from last August), but overall the market was down. Hybridcars suggests it might be low gas prices (compared to earlier this year) that helped ...
Toyota has sold 100,000+ hybrids in Europe 2 years ago on Autoblog Green
Take all Toyota and Lexus sales in Europe since 2000, figure out which of those vehicles were hybrids and you'll get a number larger than 101,235. That's how many Toyota has sold as of the end of July. If Toyota ever wondered if hybrids were a good idea in diesel-friendly Europe, these sales - and ...
No mad rush for hybrids 2 years ago on Autoblog Green
Our friends at J. D. Power and Associates are reporting that sales of "conventional" hybrids, though strong, are probably not expanding because of the increased awareness of the upcoming plug-In versions that are now in the works. Perhaps there are other distractions as well: relatively stable ...
Edmunds says now is the time to buy a hybrid 2 years ago on Autoblog Green
Even though Toyota's hybrids no longer qualify for the top tax credit in the U.S. (not that they need it), Edmunds.com is saying that now is the time to buy a hybrid, any hybrid, in America. Just-Auto says Edmonds' reasons are: Hybrid prices are at their lowest level in years, in part because ...
Hybrid-car sales grew in 2006, starting to slow 2 years ago on Autoblog Green
It was a good year for hybrid sales last year, up 28 percent over 2005 numbers, according to numbers out from R.L. Polk & Co. today. But, thanks to some tax credits ending (sorry, Toyota) the rate of increase might have peaked. Polk's numbers are: 254,545 hybrids sold in 2006 199,148 ...
Some hybrids selling well, others dead in the water 3 years ago on Autoblog Green
Overall hybrid vehicle sales are showing significant growth in 2006 compared to 2005, but not all the players are celebrating. Honda has only managed to move 4,924 Accord hybrids by the end of October, compared to 15,269 in 2005, a drop of 67.8 percent. The Civic hybrid on the other hand is up 25.3 ...
Ford's hybrid Escape and Mariner sales up 132 percent 3 years ago on Autoblog Green
There's a lot of ways to say you've sold about three thousand hybrid cars, but yesterday Ford decided to go with "hybrid sales up 132 percent" over a year ago.
