New Japanese tax breaks prompt Nissan to add ECO series

New tax breaks for vehicles that exceed the 2010 Japanese fuel efficiency standards by a significant amount have prompted Nissan to create a range of ECO series models. Exceeding the standards by at least 15 percent gets the buyer a 50 percent reduction in vehicle taxes while doing 25 percent better than required cuts the tax by three quarters.
