Vespa: Making a Good Thing Better

At the heart of the green trasportation ideal is the concept of using as few resources as possible to transport the maximum number of people. Vespas and other motorized scooters have always been a good alternative to even the greenest of passenger cars, but Vespa's parent company, Piaggio, is experimenting with making scooters an even better choice by offering a gasoline/electric hybrid motor on the Lx50. The hybrid motor improves the gas mileage by about 20% and gives riders the option to operate in electric-only mode for short periods of time. Imagine zipping down the boardwalk on your scooter, knowing that you're adding as few noxious fumes to the ocean air as possible--all for about $5000. I hope they bring this one to the US market soon! [Source: Luxist]
