MPGPP - self-indulgent number play or realistic rethinking of actual energy use?
In some ways, biodiversivist’s MPGPP entry is a bit self-exculpating. But it also makes sense and is a good idea. If we all calculated a monthly MPGPP average, it would help us realize the total impact our transportation choices have on the environment. Each time I ride my bike to the store instead of drive, my MPGPP would increase, and that may encourage me to ride next time, to see how high I can get my MPGPP. The trouble with transit systems is they run at all times even when there are few passengers, therefore defeating the MPGPP.
A vehicle only runs when its owner needs it.

I got one of those folding trailers but you don't need an SUV to tow one. Most cars can pull a 1000Lb or so trailer (and payload). I use a V6 Mustang that also doubles as the "weekend fun car" for that duty. Great tool for picking up large items and I'm not stuck with a fuel inefficent pickup the rest of the time.
