Indy 500 racer Sam Hornish, Jr. wins $2,500 from ethanol industry

Gearing up for the all-ethanol powered Indy 500 in 2007, the ethanol industry is awarding $2,500 to the drivers with the fastest practice lap speed on five days in May. The first award was given out yesterday, and the winner was Sam Hornish, Jr., who won the money with a speed of 226.056 mph. The second "Ethanol Fastest Lap" award will be handed out today, and the remaining prizes will be given on the 17th, 18th, and the 26th.

Hornish is one of the favorites to win the pole position in the 90th Indianapolis 500 mile race Saturday. The ethanol industry has sponsored a car in the IndyCar Series since last year.
