Passenger car sales continue to increase in China
If any car salesmen out there are wondering where in the world it might be easiest to sell a lot of low-emission vehicles right this second, let me be the first to say China. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) told the China Daily that in the first four months of 2006, 1.72 million vehicles were sold in China, and over 600,000 of those were low-emission vehicles. A spokesperson for the CAAM said the increased sales were, "due to soaring oil prices, the government's removal of restrictions on low-emission cars and reductions in consumption taxes."
The overall trend for car sales in China this year is to exceed 2005's incredible 5.76 million vehicles sold. Vehicles by domestic car manufacturers and domestic/international partnerships are all selling well. The Chery Automobile Company's QQ was one of the top-selling models, selling almost 50,000 units since January 1st.
