Toyota fuel cell-powered FCHV spotted in Death Valley
World Car Fans has got its mitts on some fresh spy photos of Toyota's new FCHV (fuel cell hybrid vehicle) actually being put through its paces in the automotive testing hell of Death Valley. As WCF says, these alternative energy concept vehicles are right at home on showroom floors, but to see one out in the wild is interesting indeed. Toyota has been working on the FCHV for many years, and there's still nothing to report on when cars like the FCHV will be available to purchase, but you can at least see them in action if you're got a long enough zoom lens.[Source: World Car Fans via Jalopnik]

The last time Toyota mentioned fuel cells they reported that it would cost 1 million dollars to build one today and perhaps after 20 more years of development they might be able to produce a low
budget jobbie for $50,000 in today's dollars. Don't
save your money waiting for a fuel cell vehicle as your next ride. (There's also the problem of a
lack of longetivity of the fuel cells, apparently).
