Toyota recalls some Prius and ECHO models
You'd probably call it a recall. I would, too. But Toyota has chosen to call their declaration yesterday – that will result in 34,700 ECHO and Prius vehicles coming back to the shop for a free replacement of a crankshaft position sensor – a "Special Service Campaign". Fair enough, but we all know it's a recall. Toyota's voluntary action means that on some 2001 and 2002 ECHOs and Priuses the connector for the crankshaft position sensor may become disconnected. No hybrid components are affected and there have been no accidents or injuries related to this recall. The worst-case scenario, according to Toyota, is that the cars could stall while driving and not be able to restart. If you drive one of these vehicles from the years mentioned, perhaps you should call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331, although if you do, then the company should be getting hold of you as well.
