More photos of the BMW Hydrogen 7

As we just reported, BMW announced the Hydrogen 7, what the company is calling "the world's first hydrogen-drive luxury performance automobile for everyday use". The car will be available to buy next year, but today we also have some more images, direct from BMW. Click through the jump to see more.

I know an inventor in the US who HAS developed a system of converting water into hydrogen as needed, while the car is operating. It's in prototype development at this stage but BMW may be interested in exploring this technology for their BMW Hydrogen-7. Also, John Kansius has developed a new technology that directly burns salt water, but that is several years away from any practical application.

I would love one of these.
But where are we supposed to buy the hydrogen?

You can produce Hydrogen yourself from water dear. Don't you know the fomula "H2 O". "Try that" :)

You can make it at home.. ;)

When will hydrogen "fill up stations" be readily available.
This is a smart idea and one that I hope BMW is totally dedicated to achieving. I hope this is not a stunt.
My wife and I love your autos. We visted the BMW Munich, Germany Plant in 1985. Great experience.

! but no one has realy bein able to make cars run solely on water; by just filling in the water in the car directly and not by extracting out the hydrogen. Try and make the extraction procces take place in the interior of the car so it be easier to refill the cars, even from our homes.

Looks like this will be another failure just like every other alternative fuel option, if it isn't oil based then the oil companies will buy the technology simply to shelve it.
The option of converting water by extracting the hydrogen (in-car) so we can fill up from a home tap would never happen as then there is no way for a goverment to tax it unless water rates are increased so creating a problem with people who don't have such a car paying for the fuel that the car owners use.

The taxation is not an issue and never will be, because the energy companies will convert their crude oil/fossil based fuel production to producing the new type of fuel, thus the Government will have its shot at taxes. They will not shelve it, it's not the 70s anymore. We have to give friendly Middle Eastern/Central Asian States at least 15 years to handle those extremists schizophrenics before we can pull out of oil consumption completely, so that The House of Saud does not get overrun by ignorant maniacal fanatics, which will collapse the Eastern hemisphere into chaos. BMW solution is the most viable for a consumer. An H2O converter in a vehicle will cost you more than the automobile itself and will take decades to make it ready for mass production. All BMW is addding to the hydrogen vehicle is a tank - no more additional costs required. A gas station can be easily converted into a hydrogen filling station, we've got those in California already. So, a complex technology and huge costs of developing H2O-to-hydrogen converter located in a car along with the political control of energy issues given today's landscape in the East are the true reason why we won't see hydrogen beemers for mass use for a 4-5 years...

Wonderful idea, and I think BMW are innovating the future, but while oil companies are still on target some thing like this will take long to work itself into our economies. These companies are trying everything to keep petroleum in, because its making them make money!
Good luck and well done to BMW!

Brazil has been on diversified fuel since the 1980s. They have diesel , gasoline , and alcohol available for every one. Big American oil isn’t done with raising the gas prices and trying to see how much they can get for a barrel of oil. Wile we have and have had the technology to do the same a Brazil. I think BMW is paving the way for the future for the car industry wile Ford and GM is losing stock value by not. Bravo BMW
