Altima Hybrid won't be cash cow for Nissan
A top Nissan official told auto writers in Washington DC that the company is bringing the Altima Hybrid to market only to please California officials. Dominique Thormann of the finance department says the vehicle will help Nissan comply with the partial zero emissions vehicle mandate adopted by California and seven other states but it won't make the company any money. Thormann wouldn't say how much the company would lose on each vehicle. The Altima Hybrid uses Toyota technology. Nissan is working on its own hybrid program for future vehicles. The Altima Hybrid is rated at 41 mpg city and 36 mpg highwy.
