Toyota cutting $1,000 of the Camry Hybrid price

Toyota has cut the price of the Camry Hybrid by $1,000 for the 2008 model year. The new price starts at $25,860 but to achieve that new price point they had to cut some previously standard equipment. The previously standard aluminum wheels have been replaced by steel units and the JBL stereo and leather trim on the steering wheel and shifter are no longer included out of the box. Those who don't want to pay extra will now be saddled with plastic grips and a single disc CD player.

Which means they'll sell more. If my car weren't only 2 years old, I'd give very serious thought to this cheaper Camry Hybrid.

I actually see the change in equipment as a good thing. Hybrids do not have to be the cream of the crop, top of the heap models.

I like the idea of not being forced to buy all those extras just because you want 1 particular option. As previously stated I would expect sales to increase.

I wonder how long it'll take those heavy steel wheels to cost you an extra $1000 in lower fuel economy.

Recently... in June.. i was car shopping for a new car... tested camry., among many others.. found that within my budget the Buick LaCrosse was a better automobile than the camry, better fuel mileage, better ride, better power, better handling and roomier interior and with OnStar and for $3000 less.
