Flexcar goes Buckeye: car sharing coming to Ohio State University
The Flexcar car sharing service is bringing 20 cars to Ohio State University this week to start service in Buckeye country. This new location marks, according to Flexcar, the "largest campus car-sharing program at the largest university in the country" and is Flexcar's thirteenth location nationwide ("the most of any car-sharing company").OSU welcomes Flexcar as part of the university's "Scarlet, Gray & Green" campaign, which combines biofuels, reduced idling and vanpooling (and now car sharing via Flexcar) to meet "the University's present needs without compromising the needs of future Buckeyes." Flexcar's OSU rates are similar to other car sharing services: $35 annual fee (waived if OSU community members sign up before the end of October) and then $8 an hour or $55 a day to use a car. That charge includes gas, insurance, 150 free miles, maintenance, a reserved parking spot and 24-7 emergency service.

Flex car is a great idea, but, having tried to use it, I think they're still struggling as a company. they have such poor customer service. I called in with a question, and each time the operator who picked up told me a different thing about their policies.
Additionally, there's a big prob with it. You can't take a Flex Car to work - unless you're ok paying for the car to sit in a garage all day. Really wish they'd develop a system for making it more doable.

while car sharing is getting off the ground, municipal authorities should think of streamlining public transportation. There's an article I read in CarDevotion (cardevotion is the only site i've seen so far to have it) that highlights a bus-train Japanese planners hope will make public transport smoother and more attractive...
