Ford launches new diesel engine for the Ranger, in Europe
Nevertheless, Ford has launched revamped versions of the Euro-spec Ford Ranger with two diesel engines: the 2.5 TDCi found in other models such as the Transit van and a new 3.0 TDCi engine, the latter only available with the 4-door king cab version.
Specifications aren't impressive, as you would expect from such a vehicle: 3.0 liter 4 cylinder engine, with common rail direct injection. 156 HP and 380 Nm of torque (280 lb/ft), following the Euro IV emission rules. You can have a manual 5-speed gearbox or a new 5-speed automatic. The car weighs almost two tons (1,910 kg), which, adding the plastic cladding this version has, translates into 25 MPG average (European mixed cycle), 28 on highway. CO2 emissions are 252 g/km.

Well, all you A-Holes who are un-american. Ford makes the best vehicles around. Speaking with one of the Ford Engineers in Detroit they have informed me that this vehicle would not meet emissions standards here in the US because our emissions standards are higher than any European country for diesel powered vehicles. And to top it off, this damn thing looks like a f---ing Toyota or Nissan. Why do we have to make our vehicles look like an stupid import. At one time this great country made the best products on the planet. Start taking pride in what we have and make.....

Um, We don't really make anything here in America anymore.

I do agree with you about once upon a time, and how greedy fickle CEO's and so called design teams see what's hot and try to copy it (thus the looking like imports), but that's a discussion for another time and place. I don't care what it looks like, I just want the guts to drop into my ranger. I've always wished Ford would make a diesel for the small truck guy. Believe it or not Mullaly, there are people out there who don't want a freaking mobile home for a pick-up.

Again some of are letting your elephant mouth overload your humming bird ass. If you havn't noticed FORD has passed toyota and honda in quality. And have received awards in designs. So please do your research before you come up with your stupid comments on a company that turned it around. Get out of the past. Because Ford is starting to kickass. And if you want to talk about design look at a camry front and rear end from a distance and it is hard to tell the differance from a three year older Taraus. It is a known fact that they steal our designs and yes in the past improved them but they learned from there mistakes and improved and surpassed the japaneees. Way to go american work force. And dont even go there that the jap crap is made hear. For every job they create we loose 2. They are assembled here not made hear. Eng. plants stamping plants and so on. That my friends is what is help killing our economy. On that note wake up and have a good day.

Stupid stinking FORD!!!
This vehicle looks perfect. Seriously, it is better in every way than the American ranger. I would actually start considering Ford if they would bring some decent vehicles here. When are they going to realize that their home market doesn't love them enough to put up with leftovers any more? The reason the Americans are getting their butts handed to them by the Asian imports in the US is because they consistently treat the US like it doesn't matter, while they put their best products forward in European markets. A diesel Ranger would be very popular here in North Florida. More torque for huge tires.

This is another reason why Ford of America is more stupid than Volkswagen of America... at least VW sold (and will again soon sell) overpriced econobox diesels to unsuspecting penny penchers. I don't think "Moo-lay-lee" gets it... every diesel shipped here from VW was sold... even if they did it on the same limited basis as VWoA did it, they would still sell MORE cars/trucks/suvs!!!
Mulally GO BACK TO BOEING!!! YOU F*****G S**K AT BEING THE CEO OF FORD!

Try pricing one of these out and then convert the euro or GBP to US dollars. Tell me if you would still buy one.
Another thing to take into account is the fact that taxes on a vehicle like this are so high that you have to build something superb in order to get people to pay the additional 80% in taxes on it.

#4: European prices include 16 to 23% sales tax. Besides that, base trim usually is not as bare as in the US. When comparing similar vehicles and regarding taxes, similar cars are usually 10 to 30% more expensive in Europe. Take this into acount and the "new" Ranger is not that expensive anymore. Unfortunately, making the Ford Transit engines 50 state compliant would increase the price another 1000 to 2000$.
