VIDEO: Animations of the Zap Alias electric trike
So far we have only seen static computer-generated renderings of Zap's next announced electric vehicle, the Alias. The proposed three-wheeler is intended to use a lithium ion battery pack and hub motors like the Zap-X crossover. While the larger Zap-X will be far more expensive, as a three wheeler, the Alias will not be subject to crash test and other safety requirements since it is classed as a motorcycle. There are now three videos of the Alias on YouTube that appear to be rough drafts for a promotional video. They appear to be made from the same computer model that was the source of the original renderings. Perhaps someday we will even see real prototypes. For now you can check out the videos above and after the jump.

Your ruining your reputation by publishing so much zap vaporware

@Daniel.Car
ZAP is actually selling product, as opposed to other companies that get frequent mentions. Not only are they selling Xebras but I heard they have been ordering lots of Zapino's too.
I know they haven't delivered the way we want (where's my Obvio dude?) but it seems they are a going concern with increasing distribution and strong industry alliances.

Zap is shipping OTHER people's products. They haven't built anything themselves. They should work for Pixar or something.

Domenick:
I would tend to agree with you, but Zap has been issuing press releases for the past year basically saying "Look at our shiny new blueprints! Aren't they great? Give us more money!" If GM did this, everyone would say "Yeah? So?" They at least show up at car expos with *prototypes* of wildly futuristic cars that will never get built, rather than back-of-a-napkin plans for wildly futuristic cars that will never get built.

It seems a lot of people don't take ZAP very seriously, but if I can help anyone understand our business better you are more than welcome to visit us at our headquarters in Santa Rosa, California.

Oh, if not Santa Rosa, try one of our dealerships. Sign up for a test drive on the ZAP website for the closest dealer to you. ~ Alex

Everyone meet Alex Cambell. Whenever someone uses the phrase "Vaporware" they are referring to Alex. Alex is responsible for the many, many, many press releases that Zap sends out in hopes of selling stock. Alex has found some spare time and had to cut back on press releases since Forbes called them out.
And yes, you can contact a Zap dealer for information on the very mediocre Xebra. You also have to contact a dealer that isn't in the process of suing Zap, like many are.
Be careful folks.

Wow, such an introduction! I think you give me far too much credit, Dave. Too bad we never really got to know eachother very well. You have the wrong idea about me. (Did you know I was the first person at ZAP to buy a Xebra? With stripes.)
What you call vaporware are just new projects that are in development for us. I don't see any difference between what ZAP is doing and what other companies are doing, except that ZAP has been in business for 13 years.
As I said, I invite anyone interested in what ZAP is doing to call, email, or visit ZAP. It's a challenging business that should not be entered into casually.

Just a follow up note... for those undecided about ZAP... word has it that UPS is now using ZAP trucks in Northern California for small parcel deliveries into dense residential and urban communities. See the news on Auto Blog Green.

Is Auto Blog Green showing it's true colors?
I think it is pretty underhanded how you manipulate the comments to highlight the personal attack against me and against ZAP. Dave Conway's initial comment was from November 7, but you changed it to today. Why? Because of my follow up comment about UPS? We're selling real vehicles today and developing ones for the future. How is this different from any car company? I guess there is a big difference compared to the host of EV companies you feature who have yet to deliver finished units to consumers.
Again, if anyone wants to talk about "vaporware" or real electric vehicles you can buy today, and what dealers are best to work with (We have other dealers in So. Cal. that are selling Xebras), I'm happy to help learn more about ZAP. I've spent the past 17 years driving, advocating and selling electric vehicles and I love my job.
Even representatives from Auto Blog Green would be welcome.
