Green Earth Technologies introduces biodegradable motor oil
Carbon dioxide and other emissions resulting from combustion are hardly the only problems associated with the use of petroleum in engines. The moving metal parts on the inside of an engine need lubrication to prevent them from grinding to a halt. That lubrication comes by way of oil and unfortunately a lot of that oil ends up getting spilled or dumped, poisoning the ground. Green Earth Technologies has developed a motor oil made from plant oils and beef tallow. Not only is the oil made from renewable feedstocks but the company claims the oil is biodegradable. By adding a product they call G-Disposoil to the used G-oil, it is broken down and can apparently be just poured on the ground to biodegrade. G-oil was just recently launched and it's not known where you can get it yet or how much it costs, but it's worth watching.

These biodegredable oils are mandatory in Germany in forest equipment, e.g. UNIMOGs and harvesters. Since two years, there is even an oil that is optimized for use with SVO where a relative high amount of fuel is transfered to the engine oil.

I'd be more interested in performance issues then price or where it can be purchased.

Motor oil is recycled, great idea, but who cares? (except maybe German forests).

What´s new?
I am using since more than 5 years the Fuchs Plantomot motor oil in my Volkswagen Golf III Variant Turbodiesel. The car runs since more than 5 years on pure vegetable oil only (rape oil). The motor was modified. No problems, and more than 100.000 km so far. This is for long range trips.
Short range trips (so called "small mobility") is electric using a Citroen AX electrique with my own home made solar power ( 4kW photovoltaic power plant on my house).

Awesome! How much per quart and where can I buy some? A biodegradable, non-petroleum based motor oil? Nice! Take that BIG OIL!
