LA 2007: Toyota Sequioa to get Flex-fuel option in fall 2008
Shortly after GM had their press conference at the LA Auto Show announcing the new Silverado hybrid and the new Tahoe and Yukon hybrids, Toyota took the wraps off the new 2008 Sequoia full-size SUV. While the big GM trucks have a hybrid system that delivers 21 mpg in the city, hybrid pioneer Toyota can only offer 14 mpg in the city from either the 4.7L or 5.7L V-8 with no prospect of a hybrid anytime soon. They will, however, offer a flex-fuel option for the first time, starting in the fall of 2008.

Ugg! And here I was hoping these fat-a$$ed, gas guzzling land whales were becoming extinct. I guess some people still think conspicuous consumption of oil is stylish 'eh?

No, "some people" just know that car companies that only build a relatively small number of cars with expensive fuel-sipping technologies (which are often sold at a loss)would become extinct if they did not have high profit models to subsidize them.

Toyota claims they make money on the Prius. Why do you think GM can't make money on hybrid SUVs?

Flex-Fuel = CAFE credits. All flex fuel vehicles sold do not count against the manufacturers CAFE numbers, so just make your biggest gas guzzlers flex fuel, and get a free pass!!! Check out all of GM's flex fuel cars, and try to find one with 4 cylinders, I bet you can't.

Earl- not sure about 4cylinders, but IRRC, the Impala is available as a flex fuel car- gets perfectly reasonable family sedan mileage.
I wonder if the Tundra will get a flex-fuel capability, as well.
