White House Thanksgiving turkeys delivered by Flex Fuel Ford running on E85
The traditional pardoned White House turkeys were delivered by a Flex Fuel Ford F-150 running on E85. The turkeys were named "May" and "Flower" and not "the names the Vice President suggested, which was 'Lunch' and 'Dinner,'" joked President Bush. The turkeys were delivered by Hotel Washington bellhops, in dog carriers, at 8:10 am to the waiting Ford F-150 as camera crews from Toyko TV and NBC News recorded the entire thing. The Ford drove two blocks to the White House.
Ziad Ojakli, Ford's group vice president for government and community relations, said "Corn is the turkeys' fuel and the truck's. ... Ford is pleased to provide the getaway vehicle in the turkey-cade." After the pardoning ceremony at noon, the turkeys in a dozen-car motorcade, escorted by 5 police motorbikes and a police car with sirens on, drove to Dulles Airport. The turkeys are going to Disneyland. Yes, Disneyland. They are going to be grand marshals of Thanksgiving Day Parade.

They couldn't walk the birds two blocks? They had to use a Ford F-150? I don't care if its burning bad intentions with zero emissions - that's just too much truck for two turkeys.
All in the name of quasi-political drama. OK Maybe I'm being a killjoy, I appreciate spectacle. But how about the spectacle of the Secret Service walking turkeys?

There are just so many things that reek of greenwashing in this story it's sad. First, there's the issue of waste inherent in Thanksgivign the use of ethanol and, finally, the use of a pickup truck to do all of this.
Sigh... It's amazing how, by and large, politicians of all stripes (yes, Al, even you in your McMansion) do not get environmental responsibility. At all.
Disregarding the whole meat thing, here's how to do Thanksgiving without the greenwash
Is the turkey raised locally? Free range? Fed appropriately? Not given growth hormones or antibiotics?
If you're not raising it in the backyard and it's too heavy for the delivery staff to carry, could you go pick it up in a PZEV Ford Focus?

Before anyone asks, I did not have anything to do with this stunt. Besides, we are busy with our own E85 Thanksgiving Promotion in Baltic, SD, today.
