Citroen preparing new C4, with plenty of green features

French motor magazine l'Auto Journal has published pictures of the prototype of the new C4 that is coming in 2010. Besides the new styling themes, which eliminate parallel lines, the new model is built on the same platform as the current C4 and with similar proportions. Interviewed by French newspaper Le Figaro, Christian Streiff, PSA's CEO spoke about the new technical evolutions in the new C4. There is a mild hybrid system (called a micro-hybrid) with the Stop&Start system and Streiff mentioned a full-time hybrid diesel for the mid-range models.
PSA, which is one of the world leaders in diesel powertrains, is also investing in gasoline powertrains. A downsized 3-cylinder turbo engine will be unveiled during the upcoming Paris Auto Show, along with the French marque's version of double-clutch transmission, which should be much less expensive than VW's. Check out the current model C4 in our gallery.

You're totally blind. Look at the American offerings and tell me what's so ugly about this car compared to the junk you can buy here.

That sounds like real concurrence for the Mark VI Golf TDI-Full-Hybrid. Citroen always had quite good engineering (Remember the unbelievably modern 1955 Citroen DS19). Now that most of their reliability and safety problems which they had in the 80s and 90s are solved, they will reach a really good market position. In safety they are one of the best and reliability of Citroen's is getting better every year. I did drive the C6 once. Wonderful car (but not really green).
P.S.: The new VW 8-Speed-DSG is actually cheaper to produce than the old one. But I guess both systems will be made by ZF. I wonder how the next Golf will be. I did drive all Golfs (Mark I - Mark V, A3s and some golf-based Skodas). And i didn't like the Golf 3 and the Golf 4. They just weren't the quality product that VW customers want. The Golf V was a lot better and I hope that the Golf 6 will be a nice reliable Volkswagen.

Man...American car companies are truly pathetic. Just look at this car and then look at the trash we are offered here in the States. Why is this country so behind everyone else?
Are people here really that stupid?
