U-turn ahead: White House preparing global warming initiative
U-turn. Waking up. Flip flop. Call it what you want (the Washington Times, headed by the very strange Sun Myung Moon, called it "changing course"), but the White House might be getting ready to call on Congress to pass a bill that deals with global warming. According to the Mooney Times (the only paper that seems to have talked to anyone - every other source online just references the Times article), White House officials are fearing a "regulatory nightmare" - thanks to those lawsuits over the EPA's ability to regulate greenhouse gases, for example - if they don't pass a law quickly. White House spokesperson Dana Perino said the regulations were headed into "train wreck" territory. One anonymous official said that the administration hopes that "the debate over [global warming] is over, and it is time to do something." O rly?The Times writes that Republicans in Congress apparently think the White House is "making a mistake" by going down this road. Funny, they didn't speak up all the other times mistakes were made.

" Funny, they didn't speak up all the other times mistakes were mad"
Sure they did, but Clinton invaded Kosovo/Bosnia anyway. And bombed a milk factory anyway in Afghanistan and got to lie to Congress about the "hummer from Monica. You were referring to Clinton, right?
PS Keep your politically commentary out of your articles. It is a waste of time.

This "change" is about one thing only....Bush's tragic attempts of late to leave something vaguely resembling a legacy that does not make one wince in disgust and vicarious embarassment. A sudden concern for the welfare of the planet and the people on it? Yeah right....it has always been about nurturing his adolescent, coke-and-whiskey addled ego. What a nightmare for America and the world this last seven years has been...and he has time to start another war.

actually, it's more likely to be about appearing to show federal leadership in response to activism by the states (especially California) while in fact doing everything possible to do as little as possible. Preferably, just "more studies".
You don't seriously think any outgoing President has the clout to get Congress dominated by the other party to sign off on a major policy initiative six months before a general election, do you? The objective is to present something minimal and then blame the political opponent for failing to enact anything at all. Both sides play these games, it's just politics as usual.

You are correct, of course. The Bush administration has been one filled with lies and incompetence since the very beginning. Now Bush wants to depart the White House with some semblance of respectibility.
It won't work, George.
