Motor oil from cow fat that biodegrades in days
The gasoline or diesel that goes in the fuel tank is by no means the only petroleum used in cars. Oil is also used as a lubricant to keep all the metal parts sliding smoothly over one another. That lubricating oil needs to be changed periodically as it gets contaminated. Unfortunately a lot of people who change their own oil don't dispose of it properly, leading to contaminated soil and ground water. However, Green Earth Technologies has developed a new oil that isn't made from crude and even biodegrades very quickly. The motor oil is made from saturated fat from beef. After it's done lubricating your engine, you mix it with G-DISPOSOIL which breaks it down almost immediately in to something that can be poured onto the ground. The liquid can be consumed by bacteria in the soil which decomposes 90 percent of the oil within nine days. If anyone tries out G-Oil in their own engines, let us know how it worked out for you.[Source: EcoGeek]

Yes, but the oil itself is not the only problem with used motor oil. It's also full of worn metal particles and combustion byproducts that really shouldn't just be dumped on the ground.

So, let me get this straight. It bio-degrades in the ground, but not in my engine. Right.
I'll pass, thanks.

A motor oil that's designed to break down? I think I'll let some reputable independent lab test this one before I put it in my car.

What if you pour that solvent into somebody's engine?

Oil from corpse? I don't think that's a good one idea.

What do you think crude oil is made from? Dead dinosaurs! Besides, some day, there will be no oil left. When that day comes, we are going to have to choose an alternative source for our car lubricants. Using cow fat is actually a good idea (if the oil works well as an engine lubricant) because its taking a waste product and making useful. Pretty efficient.

heh. 'No blood for oil!!!1!' or, 'My God, it's made of people!"
Yo Joce3, oil does not come from dead dinosaurs. Look it up, bro.

Hate to break it to you but what do think gelatin is? It's animal product that you like...oh so chewy fruit gums, jello, etc...
You eat beef?

Awesome! I'm totally going to try this in my Prius come the next oil change! (As long as I can get it in the needed viscosity.) Though #1 brings up a good point. The stuff that contaminates the oil isn't too good for the ground. I suppose you could keep a flowerpot full of dirt, dump the used oil on it, then scrape off the top 1/2 inch or so after it settles and toss that in the trash, since the bad stuff is usually too heavy to penetrate the soil without significant water.
To #2, you have to add a solvent first before it breaks down.
To #4, what if you pour some 91% isopropyl alcohol in someone's engine now? Heck, what if you pour orange juice in? Why even ask the question?

why not the LS2LS7? 1:31PM (7/04/2008)
It isn't technically biodegrading if you have to add a solvent to it to make it degrade.

When you think of it, gee -
- What crap the internal combustion engine really is !
Personally, I'm in a process of internal discussion
How could I devote so many years, so much effort and time
on racing, tuning, maintaining, repairing, rebuilding just about
every type of ICE (spare diesels) - without imagining the option to
scrap all those parts and systems necessary to get that sucker to work !?
Man ! It's primitive !
Idling trouble ?
Well that f**k of a motor simply is too cumbersome to even start
- that's why there's a separate starting system, and that's why
they have to "idle" - which in itself is running it on the border of
pumping ability
.
Overheating trouble ?
Well, that f**k of a motor simply is based on heat -> making gas expand.
So your radiator hose cracks, your water pump breaks down, a tiny object
makes a small leak in your radiator -> and then your engine overheats,
your cylinder head warps, your lubricant breaks down, the bigend
bearings seize up and conrods break.
Repair all that (if you're stupid!), only to find your exh.manifold is
now cracked from the overheat. Try to replace it but two of the
pinbolts are jammed and breaks - they're often jammed, because
the excessive heat at the exhaust cause severe corrosion.
You then have to undertake the extensive work to remove cylinder head
- complete with head gasket and valve operating mechanism
(wheter ancient pushrods or OHC drive belt/chain w tensioner & rollers).
Et.c. and so forth.
So you might as well turn to that clutch, almost worn out.
Because that f**k of a motor just cant deliver from zero - and
THE LOUSY POWERBAND force you to use a gearbox.
And in there the LOUSY EFFICIENCY gets even worse (friction loss).
And guess what? - You need oil there too (big surprise).
What if you'd skip that crack in the extractor ?
Then you'd get A HELL OF A NOICE and get stopped by police.
Be glad for that ! If you had continued, despite the noice, you'd be poisoned
by the odorless, invisible toxic / noxious exhaust gasses!
OK. You all knew all that.
I'm just compiling a few of all the absurditys we've got accustomed to.
It's really amazing, when you think about it, don't you agree ?
They eventually prohibited horses in the citys.
Why ?
Becase they emitted too much shit !
Seems prohibiting the ICE is long overdue.
We have to STOP burning things to get Power !

I like the concept... wonder how much it costs. Can't imagine it taking the world by storm, but for people who change their own own, it seems like a good idea. I would want to know how long it lasts and how well it performs compared to petroleum based products.
