Did you know McCain owns three GEM EVs?

Maybe this is why John McCain is so gung-ho for better automotive batteries. According to a fluffy piece of reporting by Newsweek, the McCain family owns three GEM electric vehicles. Newsweek wanted to find out how many cars each of the two major party presidential candidates owns, and found out that McCain has 13 and Obama just one. As we know, that one vehicle is the 2008 Ford Escape hybrid he traded for his Hemi last year.
Aside from the NEVs, the McCains also have the Prius his daughter drives (whoops) and a 2004 Cadillac STC, a 2005 Volkswagen convertible, a Lexus, a 2001 Honda sedan, a 2007 half-ton Ford pickup truck, two Jeeps, a 2000 Lincoln, and a 2001 GMC SUV. Note how Newsweek explains to America what the GEMs are: "bubble-shaped cars popular in retirement communities." So true.

The flack over what his daughter drives is pure silliness. If Americans don't drive American, why should their public servants have to?
It's pure hypocrisy on the part of the electorate.

its because he said his family only drives US made cars

McCain also, with pure conviction said, 'She drives a Toyota Prius because it REDUCES gas MILEAGE and saves on fuel efficiency."

Uh, if it reduces mileage, why the heck would you drive one? Idiot. The only way a Prius reduces mileage is
if
you
don't
inflate
the
tires
well
enough.
Hmm.. what other candidate for president got raked over the coals for making an accurate and smart statement about mileage? The 'elitist' who owns one car. McCain is senile and dumb. Perhaps more dumb than Bush, actually.

If McCain cared so much about better batteries, he'd fund the R&D rather than offer a prize. The battery IS the prize, and it's worth a helluva lot more than the cash he's offering.
And those aren't John's GEM EVs, they're Cindy's. You don't say that Jay-Z's wife Beyonce owns a Maybach, do you?

Because I'm sure NASA would have built a better craft to win the X-Prize.....

"If McCain cared so much about better batteries, he'd fund the R&D rather than offer a prize."
Nope. Better to offer a significant prize, encouraging others to spend money on their own in hopes of winning the prize.
Also reduces, or eliminates, infighting during the selection process for who gets the R&D funding.

Twelve of the 13 vehicles are registered to Cindy McCain, a car enthusiast. John McCain has one registered vehicle, the caddy!

Yes, but does McCain know how many he owns? That's the question...

That's back to back presidential gold digging candidates. Kerry first and now McCain! I think they are on to something. I need to find a rich woman to marry so I can run for office too.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Th UAW guy is bitching because the McCain family doesn't own ALL American made cars. Most of them are, of course ....
And then there are 3 electric ones, and 2 hybrids? (And at least one classic?)

Is this an apples-for-apples comparison?--Does Michelle Obama really NOT DRIVE at all, or is her car in her mom's name, or something like that?
Or was the comparison based on ALL CARS IN THE MCCAIN FAMILY (including those driven by their many adult children) versus CARS REGISTERED TO BARACK OBAMA. I wish I could hope they didn't do it that way.
Those little golf-carty cars are becoming legal, BTW, in more and more neighborhoods. I think it's great--as long as they pull over for the cars that are going more than 25 mph. (And I think they'd be perfect errand cars, if that figure was 35-40 rather than 25.)

All you McCain/Republican haters better wake up and realize that you need the other 50% of the country to accomplish all of your eco-goals. In fact, most republicans are totally on board with finding better ways to travel without using oil...so get off your hypocritical high horse.
I, for one, could care less how many houses and cars John Kerry and his rich wife have. I don't hate them for their success. On the same note, I don't care how many houses and cars John McCain has. He can have his 1 Cadillac STS.
If Barak Obama cared, even a little, about all of this he wouldn't have had a car with a HEMI engine one year ago. He just shed it since it was political baggage. Just like his church and his other opinions.
