One or two of you have indicated in the comments on yesterday's posts about the new MINI E that you would like to get one. Unfortunately BMW is only building 500 examples in the initial run that is expected to be completed by the end of the year. Those will be available to customers in New York, New Jersey and California. If you want to be considered for one of the cars you might want to head over MINIspace.com where there is a sign up page. BMW hasn't given any indication yet about how much the MINI E will cost or any other restrictions. Most likely we won't hear any of that information until the Los Angeles Auto Show next month.

35kwh battery pack from small cell laptop batteries should provide a range of at least 150 miles. 95mph top speed and a 0-62 time of 8.5s. From the pictures it looks to use a standard transmission. I would learn to drive stick for a car like this.

from the article it is a 1 speed so no need to shift. Personally i hate driving cars that i cant shift. Learn to drive a stick, it is the easiest thing in the world. Learn to drive one well and you will have more fun, while going faster and getting better gas mileage.

What's the clutch for then? That is 3 pedals I can see in the photo isn't it? If it's 1 speed then there would be no need for it. You certainly shouldn't need a clutch for changing into reverse, not in an electric car.

That's too far left for a comfortable clutch - and too big! Probably just a foot rest that they designed to match the pedals or perhaps an e-brake pedal.
