AMG confirms that it will launch high-performance diesel by 2011

Volker Morningweg, the head of Mercedes' in-house tuning division AMG has confirmed that it will introduce its first diesel model within three years. Morningweg told AutoCar that the first diesel will likely be a smaller, more efficient model rather than the large S or CL class. The smaller C-class sedan (pictured above in current C63 AMG form) will probably be the first AMG diesel model. AMG briefly built a high performance version of the previous-generation C-class sport coupe in 2002. That car used Mercedes older in-line five cylinder diesel. The new car is likely to use a high-output version of the 3.0L V6 turbodiesel that's available in many contemporary models.
