Bentley boss gets over-ruled, diesel possible
It looks like Bentley chief Franz-Josef Paefgen is being over-ruled when it comes to what kinds of powertrains will appear in his cars in the future. Specifically, Volkswagen is firmly committed to diesel engines while Paefgen has said that they are inappropriate for Bentley automobiles. VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn told Auto Motor und Sport that the company will respond to changing markets and he could imagine a diesel Bentley. The engine for the British luxury brand is likely to be a new twin turbocharged variant of the current 3.0L TDI V6 currently being developed by Audi engineers. That engine with over 300 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque is set to debut in 2009 in the new A8. A high torque engine like this would be a good choice in a Bentley.

I would think that diesels would be perfectly appropriate for a vehicle that weighs as much as a light truck. And think of the torque.

I agree with John good ide, and the audi 3.0 tdi with and ekstra turbo, will give it fantastic torque.

These cars are perfect for Electric motors and lot's of heavy batteries. Top down thinking like Tesla works for a super expensive car that wants to be quiet, fast and smooth. Charging is not even an issue since someone else takes care of the cars anyway, Make the E drivetrain a status item.

If the V12 doesn't fit, let Bentley have at the V10tdi.
It could use new 4 valve heads, piezo injection, maybe a central exhaust with triple turbochargers (two small & one big ass). Who knows?
A V6 Bentely? No, get real.

No one will buy it with the V6. 4.2 tdi maybe.
