XtremeGreen electric motorcycle coming in early 2009
A tipster dropped us a note to let us know that XtremeGreenProducts is lining up dealers to start selling its electric two-wheelers in the near future. In spite of the name, there doesn't appear to be anything particularly "extreme" about these machines. However, they do have some pretty decent specs that may give them a leg up on Vectrix. The motorcycle is listed as having a 4 kW hub motor and a 2.88 kWh lithium ion battery pack. The battery is claimed to give a 95 mile range and a top speed "approaching" 65 mph. The motorcycle has a fairly moderate 266 lb mass.
The motor scooter is expected to come in two models differentiated by the motor and battery capacity. Like the motorcycle, both scooters use hub motors with 3.0 and 3.5 kW outputs, respectively. Those motors are also fed by lithium ion battery packs with 2.4 kWh and 3.6 kWh yielding 50 and 75 mile ranges. No word on pricing yet. Thanks to John for the tip!

That's not a motorcycle....that's a scooter...and one that can't even manage most highway speeds. FAIL. Make me something with the handling charactaristics of a street bike, a top speed of at least 140, and at least a 40-mile range (at cruising speed of about 70) for under 20k and under 380 pounds and I'm in.

Sounds like you're looking for a SV650 specs lol

And upon further inspection, it looks like they took the seat and the top half from a jet ski, fit it on a small body with wheels and called it done. ExtremeFail

I think this is an awesome motorcycle. I can't wait until it comes out!

2.88kwh and 95 miles range? RIIIIIGHT
that would be 30wh/mile... uh, not so much. Not with the crappy drag coefficient of a scooter and a hub motor.... most normal motorcycles, and even the vectrix are closer to 100wh/mile.
The link is also wrong, and directs to 2 underpowered scooters.
Should be:

I call Bullshit. Typical chinese crap, resold in the US touting unrealistic specifications in order to sell units during an energy crisis. What a crock.

I would be careful about discounting it too early. If it can't live up to its specs, then sales won't be sustainable.

.... with a weight of 266lbs, and a 150lb rider, you're going to use more than 30Wh/mile... I guarantee it. Even with the BEST rolling resistance, low resistance tires, and an aerodynamic body you won't get 30Wh/mile. Maybe on a nicycle, but not something that large. Do the math, it doesn't work out.

I was curious about the 95 mile range so I called the company. they told me it was correct and that it has been tested to go approximately 95 miles with an average size person on it at an average speed of 45mph.

Very exciting products! Another company, X-Treme Scooters, has a similar model, the X-Treme XM-3500Li Electric Scooter. It costs around $4500 and gets 65-70 miles per charge.
Of course, there's a wide variety of options for consumers looking for electric-powered forms of alternative transportation. electric scooters and bikes are great for short commutes and are more viable than ever before with extended range and battery life.

Jeremy, this one from X-Treme Scooters doesn't look like it has a battery management system or is DOT approved...

Xtreme Green just announced their pricing -- $7,999 for the electric motorcycle

Check out the mission motors prototype. It's getting closer to reality: li-ion batteries, 150 miles per hour, 150 mile range. Only one problem...$69,000. That's for the first 50 due out next year, then 200 out in 2011. After that they say they'll begin a "less expensive" production version. The design team includes people from "Tesla" , hence the pricetag.
But, if they can do it, some one else can too... for less.
