Vectrix used the New York Motorcycle Show to introduce its two newest electric scooters last week. Until today, we were still a bit hazy on what changes were made to the VX-1E as compared to the original VX-1 that allowed Vectrix to lower the price to $8,495 (the original, which is still available in 2009, sells for $1,500 more). The big difference reportedly lies in a new lead acid battery pack, which should have the effect of dropping range, acceleration and top speed a bit. Also lost is regenerative braking. Is all that worth $1,500?
The second new model is the VX-2, which is sourced from a Chinese manufacturer that also offers the machine in Europe as the E-Max 110s, though with a different set of body panels. The VX-2 also uses sealed lead acid batteries, which allow for a range of 45-50 miles and a top speed of around 30 miles per hour. According to Vectrix, the VX-2 will sell for $5,195. The next vehicle on the menu could quite possibley be a three-wheeled machine using technology developed by Piaggio.

From what you're describing, losing range, acceleration and degenerative braking should cut more than $1500 off the VX-1, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong-I think the Vectrix is a great idea and their first bike was a fabulous start. But the acceleration is not good to begin with, the range is marginal, and the price is too high. Also, $5 K for a scooter that tops out at 30 mph? Why sell that at all? For rich people to feel good because they have a "Green" vehicle? A bike that tops out at 30 mph should not even be allowed on the road.

The VX-1E does offer regen brakes & reverse.. It has all the same components as the VX-1. The only difference is the chemistry. Also the price difference is $2000 and not $1500

Lead acid. Back to the 1800s. What a stupid move. Can't they get lithium in these things already?

The word is that Vectrix runs out of capitol very, very soon. Buy now at your own risk or wait a few months for the 'fire sale'.

I don't no where the news comes that the vx-2 will be build by a chinese manufacture that also builds the e-max 110S (and also e-max 90S)?
it is wrong, it will be build by e-max themselves (as all other e-max scooters as well)!
