Glenn Beck forgets to keep mouth shut on issues he's wrong about, like biodiesel
What's more exciting, the news that school buses in Minnesota were stalled, and that schools had to shut down, because of biodiesel and way too cold temperatures, or the reality that it wasn't the biodiesel that was causing the problem after all? The former, obviously, which is why that was what the always lame Fox TV commentator Glenn Beck used to prove a point when he said on air recently that, "Lawmakers put children's safety at stake because they don't want their buses to run on a politically incorrect kind of fuel.'' The Star-Tribune then editorialized against this sort of nonsense.
Remember, it came to light in late January that biodiesel was not at fault in the Bloomington School District closures. Domestic Fuel points out that while Beck may have made his point with gusto, he had "no explanation why this didn't happen at EVERY other school district that had the exact same [biodiesel] requirement."

"TV-commentators put climate and the wellbeing of life on earth at stake by twisting the truth"
"It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea... " (than to seduce one of these lottle ones)
In these times of change, all must take caution not to believe all that's said and proclaimed.
Changing the infrastructure to railway transporting - ESPECIALLY OVER LONGER DISTANCES - ought to be high on priority:
bring your efficient EV along, and enjoy a meal and relax while your car is getting charged until you reach your destination. More conveniant, time efficient, safer, cheaper, and faster. Even abundant car-rental systems would prosper, would you chose not to ownn your own EV.
Why are so many hell-bent on driving 400 miles themselves?
Seems expensive, risky, time-consuming , and hard work to me ...
Someone told them the myth of 'freedom' , maybe ?
Oil business, maybe ?

Most cars get decent highway mileage. To go 400 miles by car would only burn a tank of gas. Good luck buying a train ticket and car carriage for the cost of a fill up! (I understand that you need to factor in other costs as well, but just using the cost of a fill up as a generalization).
I have taken the Amtrak Autotrain before, but out of convenience not cost ($299 to take your car plus the cost of the ticket)!

@ Mike Z
well, in MY comment ...
...I'm particularly emphasizing the nescessary CHANGE
from the current criminal subsidizations of fossile fuel.
To act completely irresponsible towards other people
( it's our world ! we do whatever we want ! ) - is generally
considered a sure way to provoke enemys.
There are already systems for quick loading even of
long-distance lorrys onto trains, WITHOUT any specially
built ramps. The pollution reduction climbs into the almost
unbelievable 600 - 700 % region, energy efficiency gets into
tripling or even quadrupling, and - above all - the immeasurable
cost of devastation of the environment is the conclusive factor
that will highlight if humans are sensible or senseless.
Greed won't take responsibility for the nescessary CHANGE.
WE will have to do that ourselves.

I don't know if calling an opinion stupid is stupid itself, but nonetheless, it's someone else's opinion. By not having a legitimate reason for calling it stupid, you yourself could be considered stupid (at least ignorant). Glenn Beck's program goes against the grain. He's argued, with success, that global warming is not necessarily man made. Of course, man made global warming has not been proven. But if you listen to CNN or any liberal slanted publication or media, you'd think it was proven. There's a tremendous movement by the liberal media to brainwash people by not offering both sides of the story. Glenn Beck's program offers such a story. The other side. Ignorant people will not listen to him because it's not what the beloved CNN wants you to hear. I can't agree with everything Glenn Beck says not can I disagree. If you don't listen to him, you can't claim that you are a fair person. Enough said.
Max 4:31PM (2/16/2009)
Richard, you are a perfect example of a brainwashed hypocrite yourself.
If "5" is "5" then no matter is Glenn Beck argues that it isn't, it is still a"5". Global Warming is absolutely man-made, and has been proven over and over by the world's top scientists. The Bush administration's crook-lawyers then prevented these reports to be published without removing about 50% of the content, blacking out entire paragraphs of evidence, and editing the sense of it.
Lawyers editing scientific evidence to mislead the public, I want to hear Glenn Beck or another one of these spineless hypocrites report on that. But no, Glenn Beck prefers to put his own spin on the story and sell it to a gullible audience. If he truly was fair and balanced, he would provide substantial scientific evidence which he doesn't (some of the anti-climate change scientific reports cited have been funded by ..oil companies).
FoxNews is complete biased crap news aimed at the small minds of this country, those under-educated redneck skum living on welfare in small town America.

Wow, different conditions cause different effects. its possible that other buses didn't have the same problems because of variance in fuel make up and differing temps. Also the time since last start up. Reality has shown that cold weather climates are poor for biodiesel. In addition, humidity plays a big role in fuel ignition as well, and could be another contributing factor when referring to why these busses had problems and others didn’t. Another explanation is that many buses have fuel warmers, these may not have been equipped. The end result is the same, it is a true statement to say that the reason there were problems were because of biodiesel buses failing, regardless of how other districts fair. ABG you are nuts, also @ EV-1, I agree, but I don’t think that a bullet train from Cal to Las Vegas is helping the nation recover (Harry Reid Pet project!) especially since it probably won’t be built for 3 years anyway.

Thanks for yet another follow-up on this ongoing saga, Sebastian. To be completely fair to Mr. Beck (I report, you decide), it was the Star Tribune that originally reported that the B2 biodiesel had caused the bus failure, citing a single source with the Bloomington School District. So Beck's source of information WAS the Star Tribune. The newspaper failed to mention that fact in their otherwise fine editorial.
For a complete timeline of the meda handling (and misshanding) of this story, see this excellent blog post from David Brauer, media critic for MinnPost, an online publication in Minneapolis.

Regardless of how wrong his opinions are, who can even stand to listen to Glen Beck? He is just so full of himself that he is totally revolting.

Glen Beck is an entertainer, cashing in on Rush's coattails, but this kind of journalism is politics, and we have to have sense enough to know politics is a dirty, dishonest, corrupt business. That's why we like ABG. Everyone has a chance to express their opinions and let the readers decide.

I totally agree as long as everyone acts like an adult and understands that "opinions vary" and "name calling solves nothing".
ABG is a LOT of fun as long as everyone remains civil even when passions run high. We all mean well even though we sometimes disagree....

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that global climate chance IS man-made. That might not be what your favorite guy in the TV says, but that doesn't change things. It's not because you wish it wasn't that it isn't!
For god's sake, stop watching right-wing, pro-coal garbage TV and get an education!

Doesn't look like the conservatives on this blog need any help. But I will add a comment or two anywho.
First, there are literally thousands of scientists who separate global warming fantacies from the issue of climate change. Thousands.
Secondly, before we go too far with this bio-fuel silliness, we should take the time to actually develop few ideas (scientific , of course) that will eventually solve the problem of burning fossil fuels. Ethanol, for example, is not the solution for at least two reasons. It is a corrosive and must be transported via truck, not pipe-line (and at what cost?) and, two, corn for profit farming would completely change what balance we have, in the fields, for food production that meets the needs of the greater population. Everyone grows corn everyone starves. Over stated, of course, but you get the point (?) Nothing Obama is doing in the green industry has any meaningful application for 10 to 20 years. We can't afford to believe the nonsense of global warming with such a delayed timeline. Al Gore told us in 2005 that we were 10 years away from seeing New York under hundreds of feet of water. Who in the world believes that foolish notion?

Richard, How stupid can you be? Do you actually listen to Glenn Beck, OReilly, Hannity or any of the other talking heads at Fox. If you believe that they are fair and balanced then you must not be mentally balanced. I agree that the mainstream media lean to the liberal left. ( just listen to how they slam those who actually believe the Bible but praise and defend those who speak against the faith) Only a fool will argue that the mainstream media is fair and balanced. But Fox News is not the cure. Fox is the other side of the coin. That is why I listen to CNN and Fox and reserve the right to criticise or to compliment either one.
