Americans eager for Fiat and Alfa could get two Euro models soon
Here's one more rumor from the Chrysler-Fiat merger: if you lust for a Fiat 500 or the soon-to-be released Alfa Romeo 149 (codenamed 940) you might be in luck. Automotive News quotes an anonymous source from the Italian manufacturer who said that the new group could start importing hundreds of European-made cars before the American-made cars arrive in showrooms. The two models named above might be distributed in the U.S. by selected Chrysler group dealers. Another rumor places up to four Fiat platforms with 1.4 and 1.8-liter 6-speed powertrains being developed for Chrysler while one American platform, the LX, might make the jump to Europe under the upcoming big Alfa Romeo, the 169.

Anyone know how soon, soon is?
I'd really like to buy something before next winter; the Alfa looks wonderful.

The regular AB site said 2010. That seems a little too late to save Chrysler, but maybe they need time (hopefully not that long) to select the dealerships that will survice and train mechanics at them.
Basically, if you don't get to sell Fiat/Alfa, you're chances don't look so good as a Chrysler dealer.

While they are nice cars, I can only imagine all the idiots who'll be killing each other to get one and pay well over MSRP for.
If only I could film them and make a documentary about human behavior.

If I recall correctly, the Fiat CEO said he wanted to do this during an interview with the Detroit Free Press 2 weeks ago. Anybody have a subscription to back me up or shoot me down?
