"The Biodiesel Industry Is Struggling And We Need Your Help!"
Well, how's that for truth in advertising? The headline above is exactly what SRS Biodiesel wrote on a press release yesterday. Apparently, with all of the economic disaster headlines going around, biodiesel isn't getting the attention it deserves, and SRS wants to change that. Their tactic is to hold an open house at their California corporate office/manufacturing facility - and to send out the press release and ask the media directly to help publicize biodiesel's benefits. We certainly cover biodiesel here, both the benefits and problems, but we're a sucker for a help request. So, if SRS wants to "educate the public on this amazing fuel and give it the exposure it's due," we'll listen.

PRESS RELEASE:
The Biodiesel Industry Is Struggling And We Need Your Help!
Murrieta, CA. March 5, 2009: Alternative fuels like biodiesel are not talked about much in the media which is a shame considering all of the valuable benefits they can provide to the state of California and the environment. Unfortunately biodiesel does not get the media attention it truly deserves.
Biodiesel has been a viable alternative to gasoline because it has better fuel efficiency and burns cleaner, thus making it good for the environment. It has a greater lubricity than gasoline which means engines will last longer. Also, the unit value or energy per unit of biodiesel is greater than that of gasoline which means you go further on a gallon of biodiesel. This is good news for the consumer who will save more and do their part to reduce their carbon footprint.
Biodiesel has definitely proven to be a valuable alternative to gasoline, yet why does it not receive the attention it's so deserving of. Much of this is due to the state of the economy, petroleum gasoline prices dropping, and more attention being put on other alternative energies in California. Our goal at SRS is to educate the public on this amazing fuel and give it the exposure it's due.
We are looking for your support in getting the struggling biodiesel industry to regain momentum and excitement in a depressed market. We know no one can build awareness and create exposure for an industry as good as the media. We respect your position and are asking for your help.
On Friday, March 20th from 10am-4pm, we invite you to an Open House at our new corporate office/manufacturing facilities in Murrieta, California. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff will be on hand to give you tours of our facility, answer questions about our company and the industry, tell you more about biodiesel plant partnerships and show you what's happening in your own backyard here in California.

I'll burn biodiesel if the auto industry would give me more availability and choice in diesel powered vehicles.

The biodiesel industry in the United States has realized significant growth over the past decade through large increases in annual production and production capacity and a transition from smaller batch plants to larger-scale continuous producers. The larger, continuous-flow plants provide operating cost advantages over the smaller batch plants through their ability to capture co-products and reuse certain components in the production process. This paper uses a simple capital budgeting model developed by the authors along with production data supplied by industry sources to estimate production costs, return-on-investment levels, and break-even conditions for two common plant sizes (30 and 60 million gallon annual capacities) over a range of biodiesel and feedstock price levels.

Of course biodiesel does not getting enough attention because regular fuel is dropping now and people forgotten when they paid last year4.60$ a gallon.
We need more options for diesel cars, VW Jetta is the only one so far available on diesel, well!...exclude the Benz, way to pricey.

Unfortunately there is only one place in My state that sells Bio and that is B5,it is over one hundred miles from the house and is only open 9-5 Monday through Friday.
I know some Guys who make it but it seems every other month They manage to get the tanks confused and have to pump glycerides out of their fuel tanks.
The up side to this is that they have extremely clean fuel systems.
I'm not quite ready to take the chance and buy from the experimenters just yet,i've got way too much money and time invested in my truck to accidentally ruin it.
if Bio was available commercially, then I know many other owner operators and enthusiast's who would happily buy it.

The only help and only thing bio-D deserves is a quick death. Bio-D is a wast of perfectly good food and cropland, I say let Bio-D die.

the media has done a great job in misguiding the public by trashing on "biofuels". Much of the criticism is directed towards ethanol, but by always calling it a biofuel, many people think that biodiesel has the same shortcomings. MarkR's comment is a perfect example of this misinformation.
