Rush Limbaugh: cancel that GM boycott [w/caveat]
To the 35 percent of AutoblogGreen readers who answered in our poll that Rush's "Boycott GM" idea was a solid one, we have bad news to report: it's not going to happen. In fact, according to the right wing radio host, there never was a boycott to begin with. Limbaugh said yesterday on his radio program that:
Now, for the record, ladies and gentlemen, I don't do boycotts. I do not sponsor them; I do not encourage them. I never have. I think it is media childishness when people start urging boycotts. I have never, ever done such a thing, and I didn't do this with General Motors. All I did, to clarify, was report a poll that said X number of Americans -- what was it, 18 or 20% -- say they are not going to buy a GM car anymore, after this bailout.Fair enough, and pretty straightforward. But then Limbaugh praised an article called "The Ethical Case for Boycotting Chrysler and General Motors" and linked to it from his site. So, is that encouraging a boycott or not?
One last tidbit: Limbaugh said he bought a new Suburban last week, so at least one person is patronizing Government Motors.

I wouldn't alienate 35% of your readers by patronizing them. Try not to be a left wing close minded Liberial.

"I wouldn't alienate 35% of your readers by patronizing them. Try not to be a left wing close minded Liberial."
YEAH, cuz that's what Liberals are, close-minded people eh? If we were to listen to the garbage coming from the Repubes, alcohol would be illegal, sex before marriage illegal, gay people illegal, public transportation banned, immigration banned. And you call who close-minded? Someone needs a brain check.
Holden Miecranc 12:52PM (6/12/2009)
Nick, you might want to look at the track record of those who claim to be for free thinking and open-mindedness. Explain to me why, if the left is so open-minded, they are pushing for the Fairness Doctrine to be re-instated. Why is it that the leftist global warming proponents won't debate the subject with those that refute their theories? In fact, that goes for most any topic the left proposes. Why is it that? Why is the left so opposed to hearing opposing points of view- and that those who have opposing points of view are considered to be evil and stupid by the open-minded left?

@ Holden
This is a really lame argument. Lefties are just as unwilling to listen to Righties as Righties are unwilling to listen to Lefties. Its as simple as that. You say lefties are close minded about global warming, but even you realize how ridiculous that sounds if you spin it to say "even righties are close minded about the possibilities of global warming", right?
Are people really this dense that they can't relate to people with other points of view?
Also, are people really this easy to categorize in the real world, where everything you do in life is a "righty" or "lefty" thing to do? I have different views on different things because I came to a decision for each separate issue a long time ago. I think these labels are just a wayto pigeon hole people and create scapegoats so they can blame the OTHER guy for their problems.
Conspiracy theories and fear mongering will get you nowhere, how about we actually try to solve the problems at hand and quit bitching? Global warming or not (or global warming within the next 10 years, or next 1000), there IS a problem with air pollution, mutating frogs, funding politically unstable countries, and a multitude of other problems which seem to have the automobile industry at their center, so let's think about some real solutions.
Shock Me 4:26PM (6/11/2009)
Yeah really a Suburban. Why not? Maybe the dude has an entourage, a larger ego, and armor plating to protect him from shrill liberal crazies. It's not like a fella that big was going to squeeze into a Tesla roadster.
How forward thinking would it be to buy a small car he has no use for?
Besides even if the behemoth got 300 mpg people would accuse him of greenwashing and blame him for wasting too much steel.

I am no Rush fan, but so what he bought a Suburban? Last I checked they are legally available for sale in the USA. If he wants to pay the gas for it that's his problem.

Government Motors is now a politically controlled, UAW owned Works Program.
Talk is nice but we'll just have to wait and see if the unions can run a company that makes high quality products that the GENERAL public wants to buy at costs low enough to compete in a global market.
My guess is that the politicians will force GM to make cars that nobody wants and unions will spend the money on them selves (Christmas all year round) and kill the company after wasting over $100 Billion in taxpayer funds, but we’ll see.
What was business is now POLITICS...
When Big Gov’t & Big Corporations work together to screw the taxpayers, THAT is called FASCISM.
Adolph Hitler (a Fascist) was the leader of the National Socialist German Workers' Party which was the 1920's Social-Progressive leader in Germany.

Now the Obamaniacs are going down that path again. Support them with BOTH your tax dollars AND your consumer dollars if you like that idea.

Tim-
In case you didn't read the link you posted
"The Nazi Party is generally described as being at the extreme or far right of the left-right political axis;[6] however in some two dimensional models based on economic parameters, such as the political compass, the Nazi Party is categorized as centre-right.[7]"
The Nazi's were a right wing party, regardless of what their name sounded like. They were by no means a "social-progressive" party. They had much more in common with the Republicans (especially the unilateral/nationalist factions) than any similarity to Obama.
And Facists (see Principi di Facista) were an Italian political party that believed that government should be run like an industrial corporation.

Who are Progressives?
Some points on Progressives:
" - How fascism, Nazism, Progressivism, and modern liberalism are all alike in principle, in that all believe that government should be allowed to do whatever it likes, so long as it is for "good reasons"
- How, before World War II and the Holocaust, fascism was considered a progressive social movement both in the U.S. and Europe -- but was redefined afterwards as "right wing"
- How the Nazis were ardent socialists (hence the term "National Socialism") who loathed the free market, believed in free health care, opposed inherited wealth, spent vast sums on public education, purged Christianity from public policy, and inserted the authority of the state into every nook and cranny of daily life
- How the Nazis declared war on smoking; supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control; and maintained a strict racial quota system in their universities -- where campus speech codes were all the rage
- Adolph Hitler, Man of the Left: how his views and policies regarding capitalism, class warfare, environmentalism, gun control, euthanasia and even smoking are remarkably close to those of modern liberals
- How Woodrow Wilson and the other founding fathers of American liberalism were far crueler jingoists and warmongers than modern conservatives have ever been
- How Wilson's crackdown on civil liberties in the name of national security far exceeds anything even attempted by Joe McCarthy, much less George W. Bush
- How Mussolini and Hitler both thought -- quite rightly -- that they were doing things along the same lines as FDR
- How, in the 1930s, FDR's New Deal was praised for its similarity to Italian Fascism -- "the cleanest, neatest, most efficiently operating piece of social machinery," said an influential member of FDR's team
- How, just like modern liberals, Mussolini promised a "Third Way" that "went beyond tired categories of left and right" in order to "get things done"
- Mussolini's and Hitler's not-so-secret admirers: how many prominent progressives -- from W.E.B. Dubois in the U.S. to George Bernard Shaw England -- publicly praised German Nazism and Italian Fascism
- Liberal fascism and the cult of the state: how progressivism shared with fascism a conviction that, in a truly modern society, the state must take the place of religion
- How American Progressives, like Hitler's Nazis, were convinced that the state could, through planning and pressure, create a pure race, a society of new men
- How Nazis, fascists and American progressives -- including Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger -- all shared a belief in racial engineering through eugenics, and the alleged "need" for abortion and euthanasia it implied
- How it was largely Christian conservatives who stood against the progressive enthusiasm for racist eugenics."
Amazing how history repeats itself, is it not?
Nick 7:13PM (6/11/2009)
@Tim
You f-ing amateur had to make up your own definition of 'fascism' eh?
Fascists are far-right wingers like you, they have nothing in common with the Obama administration and share similarities with some of the hot-headed Repubes that target low-class scum like you with hate speeches.
Tim 7:18PM (6/11/2009)
Nick, you should read you own words before you say "hate speech" again.

Actual "Progressives" in 2009, in America, are attempting to get the Top 1% from Shipping our Jobs to China. From keeping us the SLAVES of the Oil and Coal Industry, and destroying the South West, and the West Coast with Global Warming, from destroying the South East's Water supply with Coal's MountainTop Removal, And Year after Year the health care "Insurance" industry drops more people and refuses to cover more Americans and allows us to lose our HOMES with the first serious illness that hit's anyone in our family. Progressives are against that.
Now, Rush, can defend the Robbery of the middle class, by these Royalist Criminals. You can spout your Delusional Definitions but the continuing shrinkage of the Republican party shows the American Public is not being fooled.
why not the LS2LS7? 5:05PM (6/11/2009)
I guess when you're on the radio every day you have to come up with something to say every day and sometimes you'll regret what you off-the-cuffed later.
