London Mayor Boris Johnson commits to only buying EVs
London mayor Boris Johnson is speaking out again and this time has publicly committed to never buying another car powered by an internal combustion engine. Apparently, going for a test drive in a Tesla Roadster was enough to convince the mayor that electric cars truly are the future of transportation. Johnson wrote about his new philosophy in a column for the British magazine What Car?With lithium ion batteries getting smaller, lighter and (hopefully) less expensive, Johnson feels that pleasurable driving experiences can now be had without any of the environmental downsides of an ICE. Many battery-powered cars are coming to market over the next three to four years, so we'll soon see if the real thing can live up to the performance and range promises of manufacturers. Clearly, a Tesla Roadster is capable of driving over 200 miles – but at a very high cost. Only time will tell how well more affordable cars do.

Darn, you got my hopes up. I interpreted that headline as in the context of his duties as mayor (I.e., the city would only buy EVs).

I think that's just because he it's cheaper to replace when it's stolen.
