chevy volt convertibleProps to Road And Track, which got someone at GM to spill the beans on a surprise debut for the upcoming New York Auto Show: a two-door, convertible version of the Chevy Volt.

Aside from the obvious, the topless Volt doesn't look all that different from the standard version and packs the same plug-in hybrid powertrain under the hood. Thus, the all-electric range is around 40 miles, but the gas tank must be smaller because the range extending 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine only provides an extra 200 miles (on the standard Volt, the gas provides around 300). One bonus on the soft-top is a special photovoltaic film that can keep the interior cool as well as power things like the low-power Bose stereo system. The best news? The drop-top only cost $2,000 more than the standard Volt and will available this summer. See the whole thing over at R&T.
